Why players shoot on sight.

Recommended Posts

This is a serious thread about why players shoot on sight. I will detail my reasoning and why players will shoot on sight immediately.

1) First and foremost, the reason why shoot on sight occurs is because of the fact that Rocket has made it extremely annoying for anyone to regear themselves from the start. It was already bad enough that people lost their gear and had to only start with a Makarov and such, but now with the lack of starting gear, players shoot on sight repeatedly because they fear losing all of their hard earned gear because some asshole snuck up on them with a Winchester, an Enfield, etc. and got free gear. If Rocket made it less punishing for players to restart, it wouldn't be so bad. For experienced players, this isn't such a big deal. However, for players that are not as experienced as veteran players, this leads to more shooting on sight than ever before. No one wants to lose their gear; no one wants to start off with absolutely nothing again. This has resulted in tons of kill or be killed, because to increase your chances of survival, you need as much gear as possible. For a player like me, it isn't such a big deal to regear myself. However, it is blatantly obvious that players who aren't experienced as me are going to want hold on to their gear for dear life, and will simply kill any strangers that they do not trust in a game like DayZ.

2) Second, people who DC in PvP are a huge reason why people shoot on sight. It's annoying, it's stupid, and it's dumb. PvP is a part of the game, and if you can't handle it play another game. It's stupid when you're in a firefight and someone simply DCs. This has lead to more snipe camping and more shooting on sight in order to obtain the gear that you rightly deserve (yes, if a bandit catches you with your pants on the ground and corners you, and has you dead to rights, he deserves your gear). Since you can't tactically kill anyone with a damn assault rifle anymore (they are near useless since most people will just simply DC denying you of any loot, as there's a bug where if they DC right as they die, you don't get the loot), you are forced to utilize Sniper Rifles for the most part for one shot kills, particularly high powered rifles such as the DMR, the AS50, SVD, etc. which can kill in one shot if you either headshot or hit in the chest. People would actually rob people if it was possible, but most people will instantly DC at the sense of any danger, which results in more shoot the second I see you; most bandits would likely not kill you if they could avoid it, however it has become absolutely stupid that people DC/Reconnect into better positions/etc. etc.

3) Not enough tools for people to form organizations that are friendly. There is no "safe" trading menu for example, and trading is one of the reasons why societies and such occur. Without these tools (real "safe" zones that can be CREATED by players, CB radios, etc.) there is simply going to be rampant banditry. Without the ability to establish a real base (tents do not count, as tents are easily looted and are hard to defend), no one can really create safe zones for new players. The lack of tools prevents this. This leads me to my fourth point.

These are really the three big reasons why people shoot on sight. I believe if reasons 1 and 2 were addressed, you would likely see alot less shooting on sight. The removal of side chat has also encouraged quite abit more shooting on sight, but I believe that 1 and 2 are much bigger reasons. There's a reason why there was a significant increase in crying, it's because most people are forced to utilize Sniper Rifles now in order to get their kills rather than even Assault Rifles. Not just that, it's a huge annoyance that you start off with nothing, as it completely removes stealth as a method of entering buildings. You're better off straight running through the middle of fucking town to regear rather than actually utilizing some form of stealth.

#3 I think is the largest reason. You can have communities set up organizations on servers outside of the game via their own boards, but that's not quite enough.

Fun Forum Fact #1 - There are already a hundred thousand threads about this with almost identical titles.

Didn't read.

I believe that's Fun Forum Fact #2.

Fun Forum Fact #1 is no one really cares if you read a post or not, just like no one cares when someone declares they're leaving the game.

As well as the obligatory posts like yours telling the OP there is already a thread about it. Way to go Einstein.

Fun forum fact #3

People will take a perfectly reasonable and well thought out post and turn it into a flame war for no good reason.

Nice post and good points. I agree with the OP

I believe the majority of this will be fixed in the long run. It's annoying right now, but these problems will be dealt with as the game is developed further.

Well i had somebody sneak up behind me today say freindly, so i gave him a blood transfusion (twice lol)

Then 2 min later he got shot.

Since the increased diffuculty of zombies, bandits now just spawn camp.

Its not the banditry that is the problem, but the spawn camping as such go into any town on coast you have a 78% chane of getting shot.

Just ignore the coastal towns. Hit cherno or elektro get some medic supplies up to you if you bother with hatchet. Then peg it dont worry about guns and ammo or knives that can be found later.

Move the bandits further out spread them out gives people just starting a better chance.

I believe that's Fun Forum Fact #2.

My bad, next time I'll just state how monotonously repetitive the post is without declaring whether I decided to read it or not.

Threads, plural. Lots and lots of them.

Have to admit, it does get old reading them after a while.

Reason three is not true, me and 3 friends set up a dayz only clan nearly 3 days ago witht he agreement all members work together, and it works, we got 10 members in 2 days, its a big hit, take a look www.afu-clan.co.cc and read th Code of Conduct on the forums to see how we work. It can be done!
