manosteelx 0 Posted May 17, 2012 I think the Deer Stands should be reverted back to the way they were pre-zombie update, where they mostly did not have zombies that were bound to their locations. There is NO REASON 4+ zombies should be around Deerstands.. if we're playing World of Warcraft then sure lets say, "These drops are awesome we need them to be a challenge". But in the idea of a Zombie game.. why the HELL would there be ANY zombies in the middle of the woods congregating at a treestand? I don't believe they would be thinking, "Well... this smells like humans have been here a lot lets circle it"... This contrasts the very premise of why zombies are in towns etc..Also Deer stands are not easy to find - unless you have a compass and are alt+tabbing for a deer stand map... they are out of the way and kind of a special gem in the middle of the woods. They do have the potential for good items.. but at the same time I've gotten jack shit the past 5 last night I went to. In the previous version of the game, before Zombie'topia, the deer stands allowed for the ONLY place that people could try to resupply in the case they were out of ammo completely, or out of supplies completely... Without having these gems in the woods, I think it greatly takes away from the experience... having 100% of the supplies in a place that there are 15+ zombies, and not even having it be complete certainty that there are items there... dulls the game down to a ," ok.. well i might as well die" mentality. Now having said this I DO THINK that it is a good idea to have zombies sparsely (very sparsely) randomly through woods, because they have little brains and wondering around the world does make sense for a half-wit.As an overall note.. I do think the game was more enjoyable in general before the massive zombie patch... Things were more balanced between ammo/supply usage etc.
mooncabbage 2 Posted May 17, 2012 I absolutely 100% disagree with you. First of all, the deer stands are not supposed to be easy to find. This mod isn't about magical loot. If you need stuff, that's what towns are for. Secondly, they shouldn't have good loot. I would argue they should be nerfed from military loot with soldiers, to hunters. It'd make more sense anyway. Also it's the only time you ever stumble on zombies in the woods, which makes for a much more tense experience when you do. Having individual zombies randomly wandering the woods is no good either, because they become a CONSTANT threat, and only an annoying one. Having 3 zombies in certain locations works perfectly for me.
Rinner23 5 Posted May 17, 2012 having 100% of the supplies in a place that there are 15+ zombies' date=' and not even having it be complete certainty that there are items there... dulls the game down to a ," ok.. well i might as well die" mentality.[/quote']I believe the change actually enhances the game to a, "ok.. .well I might as well find someone to team up with.. OR I WILL DIE." mentality =)
manosteelx 0 Posted May 18, 2012 Explain to me why zombies would be grouping around a deer stand? Also Rinner23 - What it makes me do is murder anyone I see when I spawn and for a while because I know I have no chance scavenging, so murdering is the best way. MR DELICIOUS 297 Posted May 18, 2012 I always interpreted it as soldiers had decided to fortify hunting deer stands against the zombies, we're overrun and now are their zombie protectors. I'd prefer it if instead of it being 100% deer stands there were some concrete pillboxes or gun emplacements or something a bit militaristic. I think it'd be reasonable to assume the military would have mounted a few salient defenses at places other than just the airfields.
dallas 5195 Posted May 18, 2012 +1 what mr. combover said.Deer stands could have been occupied by deserters. You can easily take out the three zombies guarding the deer stand and you really absolutely should. Them there deer stand guards are solder zombies and them be dropping all kinds of sexeh loots. Before the zombie buff/screw up, deer stands were unprotected and for anyone farming deer stands, it became a mind numbingly lame experience. Now you atleast have to sneak in or shoot a few walker in the face. Where there's loot, there ought to be zombies. It's not like two walkers and a bunny is an impossible obstacle. wasrad 42 Posted May 18, 2012 ..........yeah because the 3-4 zeds that spawn are such a threatಠ_ಠ
flincher14 0 Posted May 18, 2012 It is extremely easy to sneak into a deer stand even with zombies. The loot is great too. Don't change them.

It could be applied to any part of the game. It's choice and judgement. If you have a near-certainty of a benefit from any specific action, your behaviour when you encounter these objects is totally predictable and doesn't actually involve any thinking on your own part. When you encounter a deer stand, you shouldn't be thinking "there's awesome fucking loot in there for sure, i'm definitely raiding it"you should be thinking "what is the potential cost of me raiding this deer stand? What's the chance of yielding a benefit? Can i afford this transaction?"Uncertainty comes into all of these situations because violence is involved. Violent situations modify outcomes and make them less predictable - forcing you to use judgement and decide on your actions conservatively.
Katana67 2907 Posted May 18, 2012 Deer stands are great. It really isn't an issue of any significance that there's 3 zombies around a deer stand. I'd rather that, than no zombies outside towns. Hell, they even spread out after a while. You're asking for the system to think, it's the same thing with military bases. Oh, there's going to be some loot there... I'm going in. That predictability is balanced out by it being infested with zombies, infested with players, and the loot is up to chance.Deer stands are somewhat different, in that they're balanced out by being tough to spot even with three zombies, as they don't spawn until you get close anyhow. It's also balanced out by being incredibly concentrated loot, meaning one pile most of the time, making it less likely to find something awesome. Half of the time when I climb up into a deer stand, there's nothing but cans or a bodybag... or outright nothing at all. You have to remember, that even though this mod focuses on freeform gameplay and realistic simulation, it's still a finite game... and thus... there are going to be game mechanics on some basic level that are contrary to the unpredictable nature of the real world. And I really don't get where people enjoyed the game more before 1.5.7. It was a glorified deathmatch with bugged zombies that never left their spawns and made towns as undangerous as it gets. Zombies are, and should be a MASSIVE threat to life and limb, on par if not exceeding the threat of other players. Ammunition consumption, I find, hasn't even been touched relatively. People don't fire their weapons unless they have to, whether they're knee deep in a horde of zombies... or staring at one through a scope. Point being, there are always ways to deal with situations that don't involve firing a weapon, it's up to the player... not the game to decide what is done. That's what makes Day Z so awesome, it's what you make of it... not what it makes of you.
mike10019314@yahoo.ca 3 Posted May 21, 2012 as it is a i find the tree stands them selves more of a threat then the zombies guarding it, broke my legs on one the other day ,its annoying and it needs to be fixed
fullmetalmonkey 0 Posted May 21, 2012 Have to agree with pretty much everything Katana67 said.
mooncabbage 2 Posted May 21, 2012 Actually if anything I'd like to see the Deer Stands become a "Farm" type structure, with farmer zombies and farm loot. It makes very little sense to me to find an AK in a deer stand. A CZ and beans guarded by two infected former drinking buddies makes more sense to me.
