_Profile_Shame 37 Posted July 14, 2012 If I recall correctly Rocket said he plans to implement them at some point so we can hope that when he does they will become a viable in game alternative to VOIP as per your OP :)Awesome stuff dudeRadios are an awesome idea! It would add another level to the game, similar to how you have to find parts of a car to make it work. Maybe there could be an egg with the frequencies, like in Metal Gear.haha i loved metal gear, I read some suggestion asking for radio stations so people could make their own radio show... fuck it would be fun disrupting that shit
nineSTRIKE 9 Posted July 14, 2012 It would be impossible to implement a system like that. How do you stop people talking on a 3rd party program, or better yet stop them from talking while they play side by side irl.
_Profile_Shame 37 Posted July 14, 2012 It would be impossible to implement a system like that. How do you stop people talking on a 3rd party program, or better yet stop them from talking while they play side by side irl.You may have missed the point - which is not to limit 3rd part comms, but to render their main advantage gone - as you would be making a sound in game when talking
enforcer1975 1111 Posted July 14, 2012 If voip would be forced you would at least have to compensate the lack of communication distance with radois ( which brings in ACRE, which on the other hand can be really bitchy after updates, and can be a bit difficult for people to set up and everyone has to be in the same TS channel for it to work ).If ArmA had something like a cellphone or radio system it would be great. urspider2018@gmail.com 109 Posted July 14, 2012 There's nothing stopping anyone from using teamspeak, so I wouldn't say it's an unfair advantage. I have no idea if the person I'm talking to in game also has buddies on teamspeak, who might be watching me as we speak. We might be planning the same things in our respective teamspeak servers. There's also nothing stopping anyone from using their teamspeak a safe distance away from their target, then walking up to them under radio silence. Or they can just turn their mic volume all the way down. All in all, any mod that messes with things in my computer that it's not supposed to mess with (like teamspeak and ventrilo) is a mod that I will avoid. And a lot of others will probably avoid as well.
_Profile_Shame 37 Posted July 14, 2012 the proposed solution wouldnt do anything to 3rd party voic coms, except render them somewhat gimped.. you would still be able to talk to whoever you want using them, but you would also make a sound in the game... its about expanding gameplay beyond organised skirmishes between two silent teams
Nyla 27 Posted July 14, 2012 Not sure what the other people are talking about in terms of affecting 3rd party communication but what the OP is trying to say is to force voice communication when people are nearby. Like he said, it won't affect other programs you are using. Keep using it but in game, if you are closer to another player, they may be able to hear you and your team (if they are nearby) talk.I just thought of something. It could get a little annoying with the 'echo'. I noticed in that video the guy talking had a little 'echo' at times. That maybe frustrating to deal with constantly. But then, it could be the answer to stopping people from going on third party voice softwares.
greenpeacekiller 6 Posted July 14, 2012 Its a nice idea but i dont think its possible
_Profile_Shame 37 Posted July 15, 2012 would be cool to get an official opinion on this
vision1776 42 Posted July 15, 2012 There's been a few posts suggesting this and I think its a great idea.Direct chat is a fantastic feature of the game and has created some of the best gameplay experiences I've ever had.the problem you will encounter with this debate is people who just refuse to see the possibilities of this. They will says "fuck you you can't stop me " "I will use a second pc" "I have tonnes of free minutes ill just phone my mate" Etc etc. It is probably possible to stop people using third party software like teamspeak, but then people complain it's an invasion of privacy. My solution was this:People use direct chat as normal. You let people use third party software like teamspeak but if they are talking the ingame direct chat system broadcasts a generic "talking noise" a sort of indecipherable speech sound effct. So although you cant understand what they are saying you can triangulate their position / zombies are attracted to their voice. While they still have the advantage of being "telepathic" they have the disadvantage everyone else has of giving their position away by talking. It also means you dont have to listen to the type of crap these players spout or hear their mums telling them it's dinner time. Its perfect!
_Profile_Shame 37 Posted July 15, 2012 yeah it would work well enough!
vision1776 42 Posted July 17, 2012 (edited) Well here is one obvious problem: How would you be able to communicate in game then if everyone is sounding like a robot or whatever? Nevermind, the idea is not perfect anymore but its a start... Maybe in could be an in-game option to mumble your speech when you dont want people to hear you on teamspeak or something.Like switch channels to "Direct communication" or "Direct communication private." Maybe that would fix the problem? But then you would still have an annoying echoe of mumbling in the background when speaking to your team on teamspeak or skype... <_<Maybe instead of a mumbling it could be like radio noises so that you can freely speak on team speak without a bunch of background noises. Something that can easily fit in to other speech without interrupting or destroying communication. Either way I like where this is headed. joeyslucky22 638 Posted July 22, 2012 The DayZ world is full of mutes and that's really too bad...Locking the direct chat (and improving its quality) would really help bring some humanity and intense situations to this game. If you're eating/coughing on your mic or playing solo and just don't want to be heard, most all microphones have a mute button.I too would like to see this feature tested in a future release.
Fogo 0 Posted July 22, 2012 (edited) I havent got the chance of playing DayZ yet, but thinking on this , and on the videos that I found about gameplay on web I dont really agree with it..I think that for example, it would kill the method of publicity of the game .. the commented videos on youtube, the youtubers are talking to the viewers and cause of that are prejudicated ? I dont think that making that would be a good idea..Would also destroy the experience of the players that play with their mates just for fun.And lets think about the reason for aplying to this method: Because of some players ambush others by talking to their ambush partners by a third party program..So if they want to that , its easy for them , just dont let the mod have acess to the mic, and problem solved. There are other various ways of bypassing this method..Its not a bad idea, I just think that its useless for now...And I want to apologise for my horrible english :/GreetingsFogo B)Btw .. If you wanna make this game really realistic , everytime a character dies , electrocut his owner player... that would be cool .. ToasterDiagramm 62 Posted July 22, 2012 The DayZ world is full of mutes and that's really too bad...Locking the direct chat (and improving its quality) would really help bring some humanity and intense situations to this game. If you're eating/coughing on your mic or playing solo and just don't want to be heard, most all microphones have a mute button.and not to forget: You can still mute people with annoying mics. It's not that you hear them all the time, because it's direct chat. Want to get rid of his annoying background noises? Tell him, mute him, go out of direct communication range or... well kill him.Forcing direct com channel, could probably really help. Just display a message to the user with each log in that the game uses their mic, no matter if they skype or not.
vision1776 42 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) Instead of forcing direct chat and letting people hear your private conversations, the idea has already been suggested that the player emits a sound that sounds like radio chatter everytime he speaks. There would be 2 channels:-Direct communication-Direct communication privateDirect communication works just like it does now while the private channel instead distorts what you say and makes it sound like radio chatter. That way, you can stay private but still give away your position and when you arent using skype or whatever you can switch to direct communication to communicate with players around you. All other channles would be unlocked through a radio item that you find.does this make sense at all? Any problems I havent foreseen? When you go on direct communication private, the distance to be heard is drastically reduced as well. No one yells into a mic when they are talking on a squad. In other words someone needs to be very close to you inorder to hear you. Edited July 23, 2012 by VISION305
thatcommiekid 57 Posted July 23, 2012 Wonderful idea... although i think the lag would crash servers left and right... all you need is one funny joke and then... INSTANT DEATHI like the idea and i think it might even be implemented. BEANS FOR YOU!!!!
chhopsky 25 Posted July 23, 2012 (edited) When a proper radio system is implemented, I think people will stop bothering to use outside voip. That radio system will also involve making them make sound into the radio in order to speak. I really look forward to this because it's basically impossible to co-ordinate with people and in this scenario, people would definitely be after radios.
