[PICTURES] Dehydration/Hunger Mindfuckery - MORE HALLUCINATIONS TO COME

Recommended Posts

Zombies, gear bugs, lag, snobby survivors and retarded bandits. This game is dangerous enough right?

I don't fucking think so.

I'm talking about hallucinations during dehydration and hunger. At the MOST extreme state of dehydration/hunger, images like these accompanied by the most testicle shrinking sounds appear. Of course, this means that it would have to take longer to die of starvation (what's the point of having these if you only suffer for like a minute?)

Let me know what you think.

EDIT: Supernatural hallucinations were never the sole kind planned. I'm working on practical as well.

Keep in mind that this legless, headless man is coming RIGHT at you in a twisted, wonky wobbling fashion. If you let him catch you, perhaps he does a tiny bit of damage to emulate what hallucinations can actually do to you.

I meant to draw mind fucking corpses floating in the water, but I figured that it wouldn't be worth the effort for this small demonstration.

For me, sound will always trump visuals. It's just the type of person I am.

To that end, having extreme dehydration cause you to hear whispers of "over here!" or "there he is!", the sounds of footsteps, far off screams, breath on the back of your neck, your own heart beating, a baby crying (thanks a lot, Doom 3) or my personal favourite, "They're coming to GET you, Barbara!" would probably give me full-on wood, then a heart attack.

Please, please implement this in-game.

If this will be implemented in game, you will have to buy me 10 extra pants.

It might be nice to have some more visual indications of extreme thirst and hunger, but I have to say, the first thing I thought looking at those pictures was "Sanity System". I mean it's a horror game right, so it makes perfect sense that the more trauma your character endures, the more damaged their state of mind might be. Attacked by zombies? Sanity goes down. Kill a friendly player? Sanity loss! Spend too long at an extreme but non-lethal level of thirst or hunger, or cold or wet or whatever else? Sanity loss! Loneliness could also factor in. You could restore sanity by avoiding zombies, and keeping warm and safe.

The first person who mentions "Penumbra" or "Amnesia" gets a Makarov to the bubble goose. Those games scare the living fuck out of me.

Lol I literally couldn't play more than 5 minutes of Penumbra. It wanted me to go into a dark room or something and I was just like, NO I QUIT OK.

I'm with you. I remember hiding behind a box, watching something walk by, when I learned you're not really supposed to look directly at it! My character got all nervous, the screen did that 'you crazy!' thing, and then, he fucking STOOD UP and gave away my position.

And me, without ... well, ANYTHING! No melee weapon, no gun, nothing.

Damn you, Frictional Games.

Well that would have been Max Payne first before Doom 3 wouldn't it?

Hmm. I recall that. That was a psychedelic flashback in the middle, wasn't it? It certainly wasn't as scary as the Doom 3 "Where's my baby?!" scene, by far. Following bloody footprints of an invisible source, only to have your weapon drop...

Dammit, dude. Thanks. AGAIN, I remember this. Gotta go play some Amnes--- AUGH!

Sorry, but no, just no. -1 from me. That would suit an entirely different type of game, definitely, one with puzzles and an aim etc, but I really do not want it in Day Z at all. Some people are just wanting way too much extra crammed into an already near-perfect game and that would almost certainly ruin the game rather than add to it.

Look at the mod as it is - imagine it was free of all the bugs and glitches it has now. Are you seriously saying that it isn't ******* awesome as it stands? Adding too much can make a once tight and clear game cluttered and chaotic. This idea, whilst brilliant, is just not right for Day Z, in my opinion.

Ooooooooh this is so awesome, but I wonder if you will hallucinate when you log in the next day when you're all dehydrated.

This would add so much to the game! But the sounds you hear would have to be normal game sounds, foot steps, zombies, gun shots, etc... Things to just throw you off in the game. If I here "over here" or something like that, I will know to ignore it because its a sound im not usually use to. If I heard a gun shot and started walking towards it and then suddenly I didn't hear them anymore or it was in a completely different direction I would be like "Wtf IS GOING ON?!?!! *Runs into ocean*".

These could also be side affects of getting a disease!

I love the idea, but not the execution. I think the images are too extreme and don't really achieve much and would be more annoying than detrimental.

What I think you could do with this though, is for the player to experience disturbances (Mild hallucination). If you've ever gone 24 hours with no sleep, you'll know of these; you start to see movement and flickers in your peripheral vision. This would be more functional as a side effect as you would start to have difficulty differentiating between real movement and disturbances.

The same could happen with auditory hallucinations, start hearing footsteps that aren't there.

My good sir.

EXCELLENT IDEA!

The hallucinations are good, but id prefer to have ghosted images, and hallucinations of humans standing etc.

This is a great idea - And the best part is that this could be run client side!

The server set's a "Sanity" rating on the player, and the players clients spawn fake zombies, alters colors - maybe even makes a REAL player LOOK like a zombie skin!

"Dude why did you shoot me?!"

"I'm freakin' out man!!"

That would be epic. - Great idea

So many good ideas in here. I already mistake rocks and bushes for zombies and bandits everywhere I go, so if I saw something like that "Thing" in the second image I would probably need one more extra pair of pants.

*Hear flies nearby*

"Oh Yes! a fresh corpse, please be water on his body!"

*body turns into millions of spiders as to go to look at the gear.*

I think you might have something here.
