ponc 100 Posted July 9, 2012 Don't use any maps.Especially not those where all the loot places are marked. Why?Because you will MISS out on a whole lot of fun, that others are having!Getting really lost in the wilderness, gettinng stressed because you become hungry and need to eat, and it's slowly getting dark too... then, in the distance, you spot a farm. Halleluja! Getting to know the hills and valleys around your campside by exploring them, mastering the landscape, becoming the hunter of these forests, it's hidden ruler...Have the blast of your gaming lifetime by not knowing what's happening next. You will never experience things like that if you use maps;)So don't spoil it yourself, and have the best gamingexperience of your life!
ZedsDeadBaby 2287 Posted July 9, 2012 Good advice but not for everyone. Some people will have more fun using maps and skipping right to the juicy loot.
Phizzle 0 Posted July 9, 2012 I use a map because I don't like being lost in the woods for 45 min trying to meet up with my friend
bryantjudoman 3 Posted July 9, 2012 I enjoy using maps just to find some of the off the beaten track locations such as castles.
Alex067 4 Posted July 9, 2012 Lol don't use maps? Are you delusional?
peliluola@gmail.com 28 Posted July 9, 2012 I support maps, it's a pain for a new player running in the forest trying to find anything. After a while no maps are needed. Loot maps are questionable though, they take the fun out of looting new places as you already know all the possible loot. It's still as great as ever when you find that FN FAL ANPV S4 even if you looked its location up :)
ponc 100 Posted March 6, 2013 (edited) up this because of an actual debate.maybe this shouldn't be in the newbie section, because also for pro's, or maybe especially for pro's it is more fun without maps. Edited March 6, 2013 by ponc

sausagekingofchicago 4711 Posted March 6, 2013 My grandma uses a map she printed out on her dot matrix printer but it doesn't have any loot information on it. She's 80 so we don't give her a hard time about it.
joinnkakashi@gmail.com 31 Posted March 6, 2013 I really only use a Custom map that I made off of the Standard In game map, I have marked Deer stands, and some loots spawns that I'd hit, I'll have to remove my route lines, so you guys can't see them, cause they are mine. gamerman001 182 Posted March 7, 2013 Maps are fun. I just wish that marks would show up on YOUR map. Like maps that youve made where no one else can see them unless they kill you and take your map.
herrjon 478 Posted March 7, 2013 I support the use of the in-game map, but I recommend to people if they want the full immersive experience, don't use loot maps or way points, and avoid servers that show your location on the map in-game. Chenarus and other maps are very large and even with the best memory can easily be forgotten unless you've been through an area hundreds of times. If really in a zombie situation, if I found a map, which I probably would, I'd damn well use it. I'd use the elevation lines and landmarks to get my general location, decide where I want to go based off what I can see on the map and what I've heard about given locations, figure out a heading, and start navigating towards my destination. I do this in DayZ and it's quite fun. Especially fun on hardcore servers with nothing enabled
Griffith 62 Posted March 7, 2013 I made a 20 x 17 map and mounted it to foam board and use push pins with number flags to mark where I found things like water or hospitals and grocery stores. I am now going to use the 40 x 60 printer to make a larger color map. I can tell you when your friends look at your note\log book and map and see the game they are begging to play.
rtorbs 0 Posted March 8, 2013 +1 for the opUse a map to work out your initial position so you know where to head 'roughly' then once you have your basics sack the map of and fend for yourself.
okiimatsu 56 Posted March 8, 2013 Dont worry, most of the pubescence here can't read a map anyway.
