Let there be light!

Recommended Posts

As I found myself logging into the pitch black of night with naught but a chem-light and trusty crossbow I found that there isn't much chance to do little more then huddle inside or sneak around with a meter or two of sight.

I'm not complaining oh most assuredly not it's an exhilarating petrifying experience hearing groans in all directions and by time you see a zombie he likely see's you.

But it did make me think, and wonder wouldn't it be nice if we had the option, the chance to turn on the street lights, yes I know the power-grid would be down, but what about small generators? I've seen jerry cans so why not put in each little town and village generators you can fuel up with a jerry can then turn on and off to turn on all the lights in the area for a set amount of hours?

If it's already a feature, my bad I can't find a list of all in-game features available aside the 'about' page.

Maybe put those gas cans to use fueling generators to provide electricity to a town for a few hours/per can. Would be pretty cool and neat to see. I have seen generators around in the game I am pretty sure as models.

Well it's funny, the "Survival" mission in ArmA2 which is based off of DayZ (their tagline is "like DayZ but without zombies") has exactly this, or so I'm told from their FAQ. The teal-looking generators you see in cities from time to time apparently control electricity for a few city blocks. now I wonder who got the idea from whom? hopefully it's something built into DayZ, if not I agree they should put this in.

Some fire barrels around, occasional flickering street light and perhaps some houses with light would be nice since there are generators and it can be conceived that people will top them up now and then.. You could even add in a option to fuel up a towns power plant/generator for the night..

Atm ALLOT of people I know refuse to play at night, so some ambient light would be greatly appreciated as we don't all have ultra gamma video cards!

Sounds like an awesome idea, it would make the game a lot more fun at night, and a lot less "Oh shit where the hell am I I'm going to die."

The issue I have is my video card 560GTX simulates night time very well. I know other players can see at night, well I can't! Even with gamma up!

I'm not sure what the main power plant is powered by? Perhaps bringing coal to it you can get it booted up for a tiny while (depending on how much coal you feed it).

I lose several hours of my day just staring at it (along with several more spent walking the entire length of the Dayz map).

I just had an idea too, I don't think it's too big, and I don't know how hard to implement it may be: Duct tape + Flashlight/(Military) Flashlight + Rifle ??

I like it, just make it so the light has a set time thats on before it goes out and you need to find a battery for it. That way, you'll sort of ration your light for when you really need it. That'd be cool to see players use morse code or something with it. 2 clicks on and off means-It's me, any other combination shoot me.
