PvE / Non Friendly Fire Servers

Recommended Posts

Since some people have a hard time getting started in a world where players can shoot players (What a new, surprisingly uncommon game concept) i suggest adding the option to disable PvP / Friendly Fire when creating a server.

I personally think it sucks since PvP is a main part of the whole atmosphere (No, im no bandit. Just a paranoid survivor that grooms his mental instability, teeheehe) but at least people can learn the game mechanics without worrying about getting sniped for fun.

Good Idea / Bad Idea ?

Here's the reason why (I believe) Rocket doesn't like server variables that make gameplay easier or harder, short of different gameply difficulties already in ArmA, is this:

While your difficulty level changes, your character is persistent across all servers. So basically, if you were in a zero pvp server, you could literally sit in the International Airfield barracks, safe as anyone could ever be in a zombie apocalypse, and pick up the loot every time it respawned, without ever having to worry about so much as a Makarov bullet hitting you.

And then you could simply hit those little "Abort, Disconnect, Disconnect" buttons, relog onto a PvP server, and kick ass without having gathered your gear the manly way, through gunfights and awesometude.

Unless we were going to run two sets of servers that you couldn't carry characters over from, this wouldn't work. Gotta keep PvE characters away from PvP. Otherwise, you'd just have everybody gear up at NW and then go on their merry way.

I totally understand where youre going at. While typing i thought about that too. You could collect loot unharmed and switch to a PvP server to put that safely found Ghillie and SVD Cano to good use. BUT by playing on PvE Servers you dont get PvP Skill AND you could loose your stuff on a PvP Server quicker as well.

Another solution would be: Separate Servers for the PvE Charakter Cloud. I got two characters because i play on EU and US Server. So it shouldnt be so much work to make a separate one for the PvE Charakter.

But i get you. Id like it more if PvE/PvP Characters arent the same.

I think it would be doing players a grave disservice to allow them to learn the game without the presence of PvP because they would not actually be learning the game.

Take the inventory system as an example. I used Google and learned how it worked on Day 1. A little clunky, but not rocket science. But, because PvP is an ever-present threat in the game I didn't stop there. I practiced, practiced, practiced over and over again moving things into and out of my bag, looting bodies, etc. I tried to get as fast as I possibly could at the system so that I would minimize my downtime and not be in one place for more than a few seconds.

Now I am an inventory master. I can park a vehicle, hop out, put things in the trunk to make room for Jerry Cans, load my inventory with empty Jerry Cans, refuel the vehicle and swap back to my gear with lightning speed. It's like a pit crew at work I swear.

This weekend my friend and I stopped to refuel our Land Rover and he was just barely out of the vehicle and finding the tank when I said "Done! Lets get out of here."

He thought I was joking at first until I started the engine and honked the horn.

its not about having a hard time, its about it being dumb as hell to have people constantly killing each other in a survival game, its not a last man standing game...
