Why not: Church bells could aggro Zeds?

It would add a random mechanic when prowling around in a town/city.

Too near to a church when the bell goes off and you're in deep shit. If you're away from it then you got a clean field to go looting for a while.

I've never checked to see if the town bells go off on the hour exactly. Can anybody confirm this?

Come to think of it, if electrical power is added to the game then the klaxons on fire stations could be switched on for a laugh.

The church bells ring on the hour according to in game time on your watch. I think they ring like 4 times if it's 4 oclock etc.

I think this is the pivotal mechanic this game has been missing. It could single handedly solve KOS, server hopping and endgame malaise.

Why do church bells go off at all?

Those are some pretty fanatical bell-ringers / priests

^^^This. The auto-bells should be taken out entirely. Although, if there were a bell rope that you could pull, you could have the ringing bells aggro zombies, and use the bells as a distraction when raiding a town.

Suggested before, and the conclusion people came to was that since the bells ring so often (think every 20 or 30 minutes), the zeds are just kinda used to it by now.

It's also worth noting that churches really aren't worth the risk of having 20+ zeds all come charging inside at once. They have a chance at some decent stuff, sure, but nothing worth the kind of risk that this topic is talking about. Maybe if this was a "Zombies randomly charge NW Airfield" or something, then yeah, sure. But churches? I barely visit them as it is.

I like this idea! Especially if towns had much more zombies in then it would be cool to plan your raids in to town to coincide with the church bells. Would actually make the watch have more of a use

I'd prefer if the bells to sound off randomly maybe because of a wind gust, its odd that everything mechanical and electrical doesn't work any more but the motors turning the church bells work.

Positive on bells attracting zombies though, just not by the hour but randomly
