Game is unplayable

Recommended Posts

I just bought the ARMA pack and have been playing the game for the last 4 hours.

I have respawned at least 15 times, and have explored at least 30 buildings.

I have found no weapons in any of the 30 buildings. I found a grocery store at one point that had plenty of things except for weapons. I was also shot at that grocery store by the only actual player I've ever seen.

As I have seen no weapons lying around in any buildings, I must assume that there's no weapons in game for me to use.

The only person I've seen in game was hostile to me, so I must assume that all players in game are hostile.

Since I have no way to protect myself, as there's no weapons, and my enemies are all other moving living things in the game, there is no way to play the game as intended, and therefore is unplayable.

I know how it feels, been happening to me too. But once in awhile you get lucky and find a shotty... I do find it hard to play as a new player, it's very slow and takes a lot of patience. The worst part was I spent 2 hours today journeying down to a coast town only to find another player dragging a ton of zombies near me haha.

Kinda jumpin' the gun there.

Apartment buildings sometimes have sidearms; barns often have double barreled shotguns; supermarkets, on occasion, will spawn a sidearm or a Lee Enfield; military bases (Balota being the closest one to a new player spawn point) have better weapons - at Balota I once found an M16 that I used for roughly two weeks. At the Northwest airfield I've found M4 CCOs, .50 cals, DMRs, SAWs, etc., etc., etc.

I have ran around for hours tonight after installing the game. I found an axe once and managed to kill about 10 zombies then I died, not sure how but it happened. I seem to be spending a majority of my time running from zombies. I did run into another player but he was a noob to and did not have a weapon either.

Try not to sound so whiny in your posts. People will be more likely to help you if you ask questions rather than complain. The game has a sharp learning curve so you shouldn't join in and expect to dominate the game right away. Nothing is handed to you. You have to learn where the weapons are likely to be and why they might not be there. You're going to die a lot.

There are tons of guides and walkthrough videos to get you going. Read and watch them. There is also several wikis dedicated to this game. You should check them out. There are also several maps that show you where to look. Here is one of many: http://www.dayzdb.com/map It relatively easy to find out where you are as when you first spawn the game tells you on the bottom right side of the corner.

Barns and little sheds are great places to find a hatchet. It is probably the best weapon and most underused and underrated in the game. Once you pick it up you need to click on it and choose "remove from tool belt". This makes the hatchet your main weapon. Barns are also great places to find shotguns, winchesters, crossbows, ammo, food, drink, and other items.

Nearly every enterable house will have a weapon of sort. If the server your on has yet to provide you with a weapon, find a better server.

If that is your opinion & conclusion, then have it that way.

There are enough weapons available to a newly spawned player, you just had bad luck / were looking in the places where all the 1000 players already looked/ were desperately looking for a firearm when for starters a hatchet or crowbar would have worked as well.

Did you at least pick up some tin cans & empty bottles to distract the infected so that its easier to enter buildings that may have not been scavenged yet? I guess not.

Your points don't make the game unplayable at all. Your attitude does.

Stick with it son. The greatest games of all time are hard and frustrating. Not easy, with an autopilot button. Persistence will pay off eventually.

@OP that is pretty much the wrong attitude to have playing this game as i have seen from rocket which is one of the devs for this mod this game is unforgiving i have been playing maybe a week died atleast 30times counting the leg breaks not having morphine to fix them so i just re spawned.yeah not every house run i did merited me a weapon cause usually i did not run cherno or electrko which btw is your best chance of getting anything but also best chance of meeting players and snipers.so i usually scout the smaller areas as it's the best path for me when i started but it's a a much slower rate to get things usually. as of the zombies sneaking around to avoid them or taking your time is key it's not bf3 where you rush and win.

so best advice is if you want a quick start scout the map listed above map a path of one of the two huge coast cities. blues spots usually have civilian styled weapons(normal handguns, shotguns, rifle, and crossbow) plus the chance at bigger bags to hold stuff plus tools you need to survive(matches, hunting knife, hachets, watch, compass, etc) hit a hospital take morphine your legs break very easy till the next patch, pain killers and bandages.thing to remember though is guns make noise and it travels a long distance in the game so use them wisely just a example the enfield woke up half the zombies when i accidently shot it outside in cherno i proceeded to make usain bolt look like a slow bitch with out fast i ran for the hills.

Wow. A lot of assumptions there. Well, I have found weapons. So you are probably mostly unlucky. But, if this is how you think, then you probably shouldn't play. This game isn't for you.

Newbie alleges game is 'unplayable'.

Front page stats indicate otherwise:

Players in Last 24h: 121,158

Alive Characters: 366,200

Hey, guys. Newbie here. Just wanna add something here: I too find DayZ quite unplayable a times too, there was a time i had a crossbow, revolver, a can of pasta and two pepsi only to be killed off minutes after when an infected jump me from the back near the roads, i keep firing my revolver close range and doesn't seem to have any effects on him(bad collision detection or lag?) and finally after few blows from the infected, he broke my bone and munch on me. And in other times, i couldn't even find any food and drinks even with the places where they normally spawn(thanks to the forum for the supply location tips) so I died of either starvation or dehydration. Also i find the best way to outrun an infected is to swim along the coast. I haven't found any other way since they will be chasing me with inhuman speed miles across the map( infected should be a little slower in my opinion) This game would probably play better with a friend and i did pass by some friendly/neutral players. It's pretty unforgiving and might i add even harder than Dark Souls, as most of my survival time in the game depends on luck more than skill due to the lack of crucial loot.

Still I kept me playing giving hope that it will eventually get better like you guys here kept saying since it's still in alpha stage haha. :)

ps. Got interested in this game when i watched several vids from IGN and kotaku so i bought ArmA 2: CO just to play this mod. Hope i don't regret it!

Yeah some new players whining about how hard the mod is.

You bought a hardcore millitary simulation which got even more hardcore through a mod

that implimented things like hunger or thirst and you are seriously whining that its hard?

Let me guess you actually never played Arma before?

Are you kidding?

Hey there; I know how it feels! Really, I do! I started playing the game about 5 days ago, and at first, I hated the game. I thought it was a glitchy piece of crap.. until I continued playing it - I learned a lot of things about it in a short time and realized it wasn't nearly as hard to get weapons as I initially thought - granted, primary weapons aren't always easy finds(like the Lee Enfield), but they're definitely possible to get!

Just stay careful, stay low and be patient.

I'm actually playing the ArmA campaign at the moment and its multiplayer but still not as hardcore as DayZ. :)

;) I didnt meant you btw nice to hear that someone is playing the actual arma 2.

But the thing ive been complaining about is that new players ignore the fact that arma 2 is a hardcore game and just buy it because they think its like...CoD zombie mode or left 4 dead.

Someone posted earlier about a hatchet being underused and underRated. I agree. I have been alive for three days, killed around 80 zeds and have never fired a gun. I dont see why anyone would it just attracts more zombies. After three days i am well equipt. I have even wondered if somehow loot spawn is tied to amount of time a player survives. When I spawn I live the coast and go inland to small villages looking for a hatchet but more importantly food and water. I go slow but not too slow because ill quickly die of thirst or hunger. if i find a sidearm or gun early in the game i dont even pick it up. And i have found weapons...sniper rifles, an ak once or twice. Best i ever found was asilenced sub machine gun which I tried to put in my backpack and it vanished (grrrr). I have a lee ensfield and an M1911 pistol but i dont use them. I use my hatchet. Today I found a chzeck backpack (sweet) and a tool box. All I really need is a hatchet, water bottle, knife and matches. With those four items I can eat drink and kill zed when i have to. Even if you found a gun in your first two minutes it would probably just wind up getting you killed.

At the start you will die alot, here is a tip. Stop bitching on the forums and learn how to be stealthy, sneak into a barn and get either a hatchet or a double barrel shotgun both of which are extremely common.
