    Standalone aims and goals

I have to say, ARMA II / DayZ has the clunkiest controls in the industry. It's not even that my character feels like he has weight, it just feels like half the time he won't move the way I want him to. I never feel as if I'm in full control of the body in this game, it's something I've gotten use to from playing so much DayZ mod + Arma II itself. I would love to see the day come when the movement feels as smooth as every other shooter out there, but I feel like that won't ever be the case.

Ok i get it.. its alpha.. but this is worse than the mod.

2 posts just to talk trash but okay. Did the war z developers live stream and explain the mechanics of the game? Did they keep the community informed throughout the process of the development? Did they warn players not to get the game because it was a p.o.s? I stopped reading your post when you compared this to war z. War z came out of no where, no one knew it was even being developed. Rocket has kept us informed with dev blogs along the way, he's streamed gameplay after gameplay. He's even said this alpha is a proof of concept. I don't know how bored u are, but your ignorant posts are just making you sound extremely stupid and uninformed. You've probably never even played the game yet.

Lower FPS on standalone then mod. (Alot)

Hmm weird. Low settings on AOTC for the grass and trees too? The game is completely unoptimized on the client side as Rocket said, but 35ish FPS outside cities is weird. Are you running it windowed mode? Do you have a lot of stuff running in windows when your playing?

Hows performance on an i7 and GTX 770?

i5 3570k @ 4.4 ghz GTX 680 Lightning I get 35-40 fps in Cherno, 60 or more everywhere else. All you need to do is play with a few settings in your documents under Dayz profiles. I'm running most things on very high. If I turned shadows to low I'd get more but it's playable :O
  5. I fell in love with the bolata airfield when it gave me a magpul stock and a few dual magazines and a pristine red dot. I'm still trying to finish off the 2 apartment regions near Cherno. I literally plan to go through every single building in the coastal areas before I start heading in land. Hoping to find bugs everywhere so I can report it :P

Please don't take my question offensively, but I was wondering how much of an improvement you think should have occurred over this period of time. What I mean is, give some examples?

Surviving way too easy for veterans

I think it's tough between balancing the game for veterans and newcomers. Understanding how sickness / hunger works is probably the most confusing part of people who step into the game blind. Once you understand that, it is quite easy to survive. Like everyone said, the addition of zombies should make things harder. I think reducing the amount of food and med supplies when hunting / gathering comes out should make things more interesting.

    Log-out timer / Alt-F4

^thank you, I remember reading about dying while logging out as unconscious, but I'll read them over again!
  9. I say yes with some guidelines. - Understand that it is alpha, there are issues here and there, but I have yet to crash ONCE. Now think about a triple A title like Battlefield 4, where they are months into official release and the game still crashes every day. For an alpha, it is very playable (with frustrations here and there). - Be a part of the development process like Rocket said. I don't think I've ever seen a developer stream / explain / connect with the community about a game as much as him and hicks has. I think this shows how passionate they really are, and this is a GOOD thing. Hell Rocket even told you not to buy the game, how many devs would say that to you? - Buy it if you're patient. If a zombie hits you through a wall here and there and you end up flipping your table, this alpha is not for you. - And lastly, buy it if you really support the game. I got it because I know I want to be a part of this from the start. I think it shows great promise. Hell I paid for War Z, it would be wrong to not give this game a chance for the same price.

Opening a tin can on concrete.

I'm not sure if I was dreaming, but did Rocket say that knives and bayonets can also open tin cans now? I think there are a multitude of items in the game that "should" be able to open a can, but the game just doesn't allow it. It would be nice if anything decently sharp can open a can, maybe just add some sort of damage to that item after using it.

    Log-out timer / Alt-F4

This is probably already on the list of things Rocket has in mind, but just to be sure - It would be really nice if logging out during a combat state took time. The last time I played the mod, there was a log out timer and it prevented people from combat logging. In terms of Alt-F4, if possible, that should be an instant kill of your character. There's been too many occasions on stream where I've watched someone alt-f4 or leave the server after being shot, sometimes to reconnect nearby and get the jump on a player.

do people actually want a complicated medical system?

I think the standalone system is good. The mod never made me feel like survival was an issue in terms of eating, drinking and even "healing", it was more of a problem if I got shot. I could travel across the map with 2 cans of pop and 2 cans of beans in the mod. I like how in the standalone I have to worry about sprinting everywhere and draining my food levels faster, making sure I have enough supplies before I go somewhere far. It also makes me think twice before getting into a firefight because bandages aren't just littered everywhere in the map. I think the system will be amazing when the zombie count increases, then there will be a feeling of desperately needing food / water / ammo at the risk of getting killed by the dead.

    A list of small complaints/issues.

Good feedback, someone already linked a bug report form. You should definitely post it there, I've experienced some of the same things (if not most). Just waiting to get home so I can put in a bug form. Don't worry, if you've watched any of Rocket's streams, he doesn't intend to just let bugs slide (no unconscious player pun intended.)

Full geared, now what to do?

That's the great thing about this game - there is no "what to do next." You can do whatever you want, the key thing to remember is -don't be afraid to go out there and get killed.- Go walk around the roads, you might find a new spawn that you could help out, or kill if that's what you fancy. Go explore the map, continue to collect gear, you'll constantly run into things you find interesting, and players along the way. To me Dayz is all about meeting players and seeing how they react.

    Blood Splatters / Pools

Rocket mentioned in one of the streams that later down the road bodies will "disappear" from explosions. Knowing his attention to detail I think this probably means gore and not literally disappear. I think this game is hitting a lot of the "realism" parts very well, but I can't see them having clean bodies on the ground just dripping blood. Let's cross our fingers!
