Implement a leveling system

Recommended Posts

Without even reading this: Absolutely NOT. This is not an RPG and it would make the entire point of this game irrelevant.

Again: hell to the NO.

Do you realize how stupid you're making yourself sound?

"IM NOT EVEN GONNA READ IT BUT ITS BAD"

Real smart there, kiddo. If you had taken the time to actually read what you're reviewing, you'd see its AESTHETIC. That means its just affects LOOKS, much like the bandit skin used to be. Saying this is an RPG just because it would have a rank indicator is like saying "THIS CANT HAVE GUNS BECAUSE THIS ISN'T CALL OF DUTY".

But no, nobody can be this ignorant so please explain how exactly it would "make the entire point of this game irrelevant"? What do you consider to be the "entire point of this game"? I would love to know where you're coming from with these statements, or if you're just overreacting and pulling this out of your ass.

Some sort of skill-based leveling system that resets when you die could be interesting. It would increase the impact of death even more and possibly lead to specialization of players into emergent classes. It will add another layer of complexity to the game without going against its spirit.

It's already in the game.

All the skills you require to master DayZ and ArmA are skills you develop as a player, not as character bonuses.

You become a better shooter, because you realize that bullets have ballistics, that sometimes a bullet passes over your target and sometimes it falls short. You learn to ID the sound of a weapon fired within hearing range, what kind of weapon, it's general direction, the distance and whether or not you should be worried. You become better at navigating Chernarus, because your area knowledge expands and you become a master of map reading. You learn which locations yields the best chances for the type of loot you requires, you learn where to look for vehicles, players and their camps. You learn how to become self-reliant and become comfortable operating close to zombies and population centers.

If you want progression, leveling and long term motivation, start analyzing your deaths and begin learning from your mistakes and experiences.

First off why would civilians need ranks????? this is not the bloody army. It's a mod of a military simulator yeah but thats it, if you want to play with ranks and leveling then go play one of the multitude of games with that crap in it.

Don't like permadeath then off you go and play bf or cod, they'll reward you for farting with loadsa shiney stuff and pointless numbers.

I'd rather those Kb's where used on something more useful like being able to eat and drink in your car.

Pretty sure Rocket has explicitly said that he won't implement a leveling system, lol.

He has indeed said that.

How is it that something like this gets bumped from back in July?

Maybe we should make the date of the post more prominent.

The perma death idea in my opinion is flawed, you already lose all your gear that you worked so hard to find so the idea of a perma death ads nothing to the punishment of losing. Adding a subtle leveling system that leveled up from time played + zombies/bandits killed etc would be a small reward for the time and effort you put in, you still sttart out with a torch, bandages etc, so you still lose all your gear when you die, but you are not left feeling your entire time was wasted.

Wasted time? REALLY?

If you did not get any enjoyment out of the time spent getting to whatever point you got to before dieing and starting over ... well all i can say is don't you have something better to do?

If there were to be ranks , such a thing would happen within your "playing group" with other team members having to witness and confirm your feats of courage and survival , or how many zombies or enemies you have killed , or how much you have helped your friends out , etc etc .

No one else is going to care , or even know what "rank" you are , or how noble , or how selfish , other than the people you play closely with , so it's probably something best left to the player to work out , rather than a game mechanic that every one must be subject to .
