weaken gun damage

I've seen a few things about making headshots only kill, and while it would make the game harder it also makes certain weapons pretty useless, for instance the revolver would be the worst sidearm and the makarov would actually be one of the better guns due to its lower noise level, more common ammo spawn, and larger mag.

But, if you were to lower the damage of most guns making people choose to be deliberate with their shots or burn through there ammo.

what i propose is that all guns still kill in one headshot, but make only the .50 cal snipers and shotguns (except the 1866) kill in one body shot. The .45 pistols, snipers and 1866 2. The 7.62 assault rifles and lmg's 3-4. The 5.56 assault rifles and lmg 4-5 and the 9mm 5-6 with the makarov being 7.

This would'nt affect killing one zombie very much but if people had to take on 4-5 they might have to consider if they can even do it, "will i have enough ammo or do i need to reload?" if they get all headshots then theres no problem but hitting a zig zagging sprinter wont be easy, and if they go for the body shots it might take an entire mag to kill a small group, ammo will be slightly more precious even though it spawns often because you'll likely need to use much more to kill, it might also help promote teamwork because it may no longer be possible to take on certain hordes without backup. Now some people might be saying that it makes shotguns to good, and thats a fair point, shotguns will be pretty damn good, but they still have limited range and ammo capacity so they would only be good against small zombie groups, large groups you would likely need the increased ammo capacity that comes with the higher end assault rifles and lmg's. Snipers would still be good, just make sure you get headshots and truthfully thats just better balance for them, if they all kill in one hit there isnt any point to get a .50 cal as its ammo is more rare and is louder.

I think that would make the game better in the long run by making it slightly more challenging but not altering the gameplay much.

[EDIT] i forgot to post crossbow damage, i would make it 4 arrows to kill

i dont want pvp to be different, and as far as the physics i have to say that the only game i ever modded was halo 2 but back when i did that all i did was alter the damage values done by weapons, it was pretty simple. I have to claim i dont know how the damage would be altered in this game but i assume it would be the same.

Regardless many people talk about the zombies not being an issue and only needing to worry about other people, this would make zombies harder to defeat and make ammo shortages more common without changing spawn rates.

A Zombie is a living being (Except for the brain). If your hit with a .45 Round in real life, your going to die... fast. I this the gun damage is fine as it is. Same for players. A shot or to and your dead.

many people survive .45 shots to the stomache and even chest, obviously with medical attention, but who's to say the zombies are alive? They could be undead which would mean that bleeding out wouldnt be a problem. I dont claim to know rockets vision of what the zombies are like (if they are alive or not) but gameplay wise i believe it would be superior, it would make zombies more challenging, and as i said i dont want pvp to be changed, i think those damages are fine as is. But it appears that im the only one who feels this way

Address gun damage to BIS, otherwise the DayZ team would have to either make their own gun models or modify the ones in the game which would be ridiculous because the damage system is good enough as it is. damage is defined by the type of bullet and not by the weapon. f.e. the M240 and M14 would use 7.62x51ball, the M9 and G17 would use 9x19mmball ect. Modifying it wouldn't be so difficult but would throw the game extremely off balance.

Abundance of ammunition won't be a problem anymore with the next patch.

I'm guessing you've never shot a real gun and hit a living target before...

Bullet damages are fine how they are IMO

Making weapons weaker is like Call of duty. Shoot someone in the back and they turn around and "No scope" you. I dont want to see power rangers running around not scared of being shot. Thats what left for dead is for. This is simulation. Realism, physics. You change this and Im gone.
