No Loot or Zombies Spawning on my Server.

Recommended Posts

I built, own, and run a vanilla server that has a small but dedicated fan base.  I have about 2,000 hours on DayZ, and I probably got 1,000 of those hours while working on the server alone.  Absolutely no mods.  I built it up, (literally) bit by bit.  I used no external tools.  Everything was trial and error and manual.  I'm used to going through thousands of lines of code to look for an errant comma or missing bracket somewhere.

I decided to step up the server a bit by using the DayZ Editor mod to add objects to the server - just to create the code for me to use.  I did not install that mod.  I did a bunch of work on the server with the DayZ Editor.  Added the extracted code to both the mapgrouppos.xml file, and created a new JSON file for the "custom" folder on the server.  I also have other JSONs that I created manually for the server there, so I compared this new JSON to the old ones to make sure that the formatting was correct.  I also made sure to reference the new JSON file in the cfggameplay.xml file.

The only objects that I used the DayZ Editor to add were buildings and inanimate environmental objects.  I stopped my server.  Uploaded all of the files, and restarted it.  I then waited a couple hours for everything to sort itself out, and then I went back in as a player.  I ran through three cities, but did not see a single zombie, nor a single piece of loot.

During this above process, I never touched the types.xml file, or anything having to do with the zombies.  The usage of the DayZ Editor was simply to get the object names and coordinates that I needed.

I backed-up my server before I started all this, so I simply reverted back to that back-up from a few hours before, and everything is good now, but I still would like to try and fix this issue.

I use XML and JSON validators all the time, and have run several of the files through them.  No errors.  I have scanned through manually, too.  All formatting is correct.  I have no idea.  Any one have any ideas of what I could try?

Here is a symptom of the problem, I suppose.  To troubleshoot, I am running the new files through the local DayZ Server on my PC, and this pops up.  The list is much longer than this screenshot, and it includes pretty much every single event on the server.  I have double and triple checked, and both the events.xml and cfgeventspawns.xml files are intact and in place.  Any ideas why using the DayZ Editor might cause this?
