Rizla1900 0 Posted December 19, 2023 Hi, I‘m a console player usually, but am thinking about switching to pc only for dayz. Since the game is 10 years old, I figure it can be an older model, but I have no idea what hardware is required to have it run pristine. Anybody here who can help with that? For current DZ I'm using an old weak PC: OS: Win 10; RAM;: DDR3 16Gb; CPU: Intel Core I7-3770 3.40 GHz; GPU: nVidia GTX 960 2Gb; HDD Seagate 2Tb (std HDD non SSD; 9700 Rpm), I just hate the SSDs. But if you wish to play current games use SSD! On mid settings: 60 - 65 FPS (At Cherno (large but no-player city): 53 - 60 FPS); Electro: 56 - 60FPS. I'm playing on my modded server so I can't say that it's easy for client but it works.
lemmac 101 Posted December 20, 2023 I guess it depends on what your idea of 'pristine' is, what resolution you want to play at and how many FPS you are after... personally i just use a laptop with GeForce RTX3600 (6GBvram) and it plays just fine @1080p/90-150FPS with most bells and whistles on and set to high/ultra. My CPU rarely hits even 20% of capacity so the GPU seems most important. Closely followed by an external keyboard/mouse/headset and monitor. Bear in mind lower graphics settings might not look quite as pretty but can offer a clear advantage in gameplay too 😉
Rizla1900 0 Posted December 20, 2023 Thx guys. That gives me an idea what to look for. 1080p/90-150FPS sounds very ok to me.
Personal advice: SSDs are really very fast, but if they have problems you can suddenly lose them and never recover anything. HDDs are really slow, but if they go into "crisis" they give defects for a long time and with a little experience and the right software (Power Data Recovery 6.5 is good and free), you can recover everything before they die. Therefore O.S., drivers, programs and video games on an SSD (of which you will save the image with Ghost or similar) ALL your data (archives, photos, videos, various info... everything else) in one HDD and you will backup to another HDD (even directly the clone image) as regularly as you can and use some software that keeps the S.M.A.R.T. under control of the HDD (not perfectly reliable, but better than nothing). This way it is also easier to have different installations and change SSD at startup and not have trouble with boot loaders. I have lived happily like this for years. 😉
