Console Game Chat and Player Interaction

Recommended Posts

Problem: Game chat is rarely used by players on console because of the party chat system and difficulty switching from party chat to game chat.

Implications: Lack of game chat use has made the culture of console DayZ largely KOS because it's too dangerous to switch to game chat from party chat near strangers. Furthermore, an entire unique feature of the DayZ experience is ignored by console players; walkie-talkies are completely neglected on console. It's unrealistic to expect players to not use party chat when playing with a squad, this even happens on PC with Discord. I believe a small change would impact the way players interact as a whole.

Suggestion: Make a button to toggle from party chat to game chat easily. I've played other games on console that offer the ability to switch between the two seamlessly, so I believe it is possible in DayZ. I've also played games that ban party chat in certain playlists, but I think that would deter more casual players from the game.

Absolutely agree, this should have been a given from the very beginning... seeing as Dayz can be so quiet and lonely for much of the time. it's nice to chat with friends even if they are playing different games.

It wouldn't even require a dedicated button to switch from party to game chat, considering there is already a game chat toggle button in the controls. Instead of just turning game chat on/off it should also override party chat.

On the playstation the party/game chat options say 'prioritise' one or the other which inherently suggests the default can be overridden within game.
