Building

Recommended Posts

Apologies if this has been suggested before (I'm sure it has) but there really needs to be some adjustments made to building on PS4.

It would be great if we could build floors to create level ground on like they can on PC, or make it so there is some other way to build on uneven ground.  It would also be awesome if we, like PC, could build double high walls, and even create whole structures from scratch. Proper code locks would be awesome too (the combo locks are just too easy to hack)

Building on PS4 is highly frustrating, and it seems PC is getting all the love when it comes to mods. Console DOES make up a large amount of the player base, and I'm sure I'm not the only one who feels like we get left behind.

Also, the ability to remove hay bails and mounds would be AMAZING. Not to mention other decorative vehicles (camper vans etc)

The reality is that console and PC are the exact same games. All the stuff you see from mods is just that - mods - made by the community for the community. The official game doesn't have them on PC either, only community servers.

That said, there is definitely room for improvement with vanilla base building. The exaggeratedly restrictive placement makes it nearly impossible to build if the ground is anything but a flat, featureless surface, this needs to be improved - preferably with some kind of snapping function so you don't have to have huge gaps between fences. Also I'd like to see door and window barricades, and some kind of simple cabin and/or shed. But please, none of those enormous complexes of concrete from the more out there mods, those are really not needed. The code lock mod is very convenient but a major immersion killer, I'd prefer to see a 5-digit combo lock implemented instead. Three digits is useless, and a focused player can brute force even the four-digit lock in a matter of hours if he really wants to. Five digits would make a world of difference.

This is truth.

The bones are there, devs just need to jump in and tweak console a little. The amount of times I've had to make haggard zig zag walls because the ground is uneven is insane. And most bases are too easy to get into if all they have is a combo lock and some barbed wire.

If a player can make structures on ground that is otherwise uneven, then what stops any player from building a watchtower next to a base and just hopping the fence?

And so there are no features because there is a possibiility that people may use them... A game that hates when people are thinking. You can build a wall thats easy to raid and npcs can just ignore it and walk in like it's not even there... This is reality. Mods are upgrading this part of the game but the problem is still the same: its engine. The game not only hates when people are thinking. It also hates when people are playing it and leaving anything behind on a map. It will lag, which means that hostile object was installed somewhere.

"Also, the ability to remove hay bails and mounds would be AMAZING. Not to mention other decorative vehicles (camper vans etc)" - now that's even harder thing to accomplish... Interactive map? You're kidding? Each change like that will leave a marktodelete reference which (bigger numbers) will clog databases in the end. So far this game has disappearing grass (texture related) and refreshing trees (each reset). That's propably the limit. Anything else needs a lot of work.
