Why is console community so bad?

Recommended Posts

Ive been playing DayZ on Xbox one for 5 months now and I’ve literally only had 3-4 friendlies during that entire time. I was just at a military base, unarmed, and tried to claim I was friendly but was shot at without hesitation. Fortunately I killed one of them and the other ran away and now I’m looted to the teeth. Aside from that, the second someone has a gun or weapon it’s kill on sight. It’s hard to want to continue playing because I want to join a squad and start base building.

Hi 🙂

don't worry, no matter how hostile other players might seem at times, you are not alone. It's mostly people who had bad experiences and/or are afraid of losing their gear. If you are looking for a clan/group, you can also look into our recruitment area in the console sub-section, or hop by our DayZ discord. There's lots of people looking for folks to team up with.

I would also like to add that the manner in which you approach players and when is pretty huge, like if you're at a military base generally the rule is shoot on sight especially the more inland you go. On the other hand, freshie on the coast meeting another freshie generally will have a good outcome, or even if the player doesn't have alot to loose and you do(not too much tho), help them out with food and you might make a friend. I find also when you clearly have an advantage over the person that they are aware of their more likely to be friendly however idk if that's a friendship that will last, really depends on if they like you & the type of person (that's really boiling it down to a paragraph tho)

My outlook is most people in life get enjoyment out of bringing people down rather than bringing up, so in DayZ where there's usually 0 consequences for killing someone generally you will see the true nature of the person come out, unless you imply consequences that they can't fully consider in the moment. I almost guarantee if you would have announced yourself as friendly from cover, expressed your intentions, they would have atleast talked first or ran off to gain the advantage back (there is a balance you need 2 find). I implement alot of little tricks to encounters and it's crazy the different experience i get compared to others.

It might be hard 2 follow what I'm saying idk (I'm not the greatest at conveying thoughts imo), but here's a video from a youtuber who really got me into the "psychology or sociology" if you will of DayZ that will explain things better and really inspired my playstyle. Also a great example at the end that reminded me of your situation, you should check out his other videos like the one before this video "6 tips on how to approach other players".

Lol the first time i played DayZ i met a player in game and travelled with them. When they took a backpack i secretly wanted i offered him a can of sardines as they opened it i said sorry and shot em in the head... Felt a sinking feeling in my stomach and remorse for the next 20 mins, that's when i learnt that I'm a good person lmao. To be fair this was back when the game just came out on console and servers were restarting every 40 mins, i saw the server was restarting soon and decided since i wasn't gonna see him again i would kill him (he also didn't have a mic & the idea of betrayal was interesting to me). Just be careful and keep your eyes on people after you befriend them, if i can betray someone anyone can, though you can read people surprisingly well just on their in game body language combined with what they say even though you'll likely ignore it and give them the benefit of doubt. Also I've had my times where I'm clearly sketched out and that sketches other people out into thinking you're up to something so try to be subtle.

Stop playing vanilla servers and get on some private ones.

I have a huge welcoming community on both my servers. These servers I started because of the same issue you are currently having. Most players only see dayz as a killing ground, when it's really so much more!

That's definitely also an option, not one i would ever use but i can see the appeal especially for a focus on interaction, but at the same time you're giving up alot of DayZ just to guarantee something which can still be found on vanilla. Everybody has their own ideal way of playing though. I just cant imagine the organic, unique things that have happened to me on vanilla happening on an rp server, but i guess it goes both ways.

It's a little known fact that Rob Z used to be a member here. He was an unruly customer though, and we had to fight him off back in 2013.

Here's a photo (colorized) of our first battle, in which I was sorely defeated, as my banhammer got entangled in his dreads. Later on Kichi got him down with a sneaky back-hammering, though not without suffering severe mental damage.

I do not like making conversations with people I meet in Dayz, everyone is trying to get something out of doing that whether it is in ally or to feel good about themselves and it borders on roleplay.  I do not really need a reason to shoot someone if I have a gun...but then again not every situation is the same not everyone has to be shot.

Anyway...there is very little difference in how PC players and console players act, so it would not be better any other place. Maybe culture wise console players are more toxic because they are not use to going through different phases in development I think the PC crowd has already gotten over that phase....like harassing Brian Hicks.

Never attempt to interact peacefully with more than one person. Why? Because there's approximately a 98% chance they're on a private communications protocol and probably don't want to invite randos into their private community. If they know you're nearby, it's objectively safest of them to kill you and keep looting. There is no downside to them except the lost ammo, which has never really been precious enough in this game to make me weight the pros and cons of taking a shot at any point. The math just falls that way.
