Simple enough: Reintroduce the improvised bow and crossbow. I'd love to work on it myself but the game crashes while rendering the bow model.

they have removed the spear from the game now so I think they will be focusing on the throw dynamics so you can actually throw it like a spear and stab with it like a spear. if they do this then I think they can make a bow work, just think a spear is like a big arrow without the flight obviously. an arrow is like a small spear but propelled by a bow instead of throwing, if the spear can be reintroduced to work exactly like a spear then I'll be convinced that a bow will come at some point.
