My question would be is it as loud to other players/infected as it is to us? 

So far, I've unsheathed to take down an infected from about 2 meters away and they haven't seemed to hear it...

Could be. Maybe it's like how your own footsteps sound really loud to you but not as loud to other players?

It's not the zombie I'm worried about, it's the less than friendly players at a distance I am.
