We have a team of three and have been playing since launch and have never found an assault rifle even though we have looted all military bases, barracks and tents many times. I just assumed I'm a few mins behind the lucky survivor who's looted the same spot and taken the assault rifle. Come to think of it, I'm not sure I've seen anyone with them on the PS4. But I couldn't tell the difference between an assault rifle going off or a scorpion TBH.. And I've been shot and killed a lot.
