Base building worth it?

Question

Building bases are hard and fun. But it worth it?

Well, the chance of you have all your loot storage, safe place to make a fire and use as your home in a zumbi apocalipse It’s pretty damn great.  But the game still don’t offer an viable way to do it.

The problem it’s not to get raided, it’s part of the game. Makes funny sometimes. The problem is the mechanism. Or the lack of it.

For example: what’s the point of you place a combination lock in the gate if someone just use micromanagement to pull it out? Or just use a barrel, a car or another player to jump over the fences? I saw some modded server in PC that allows you to build two levels fences. Yeah, you can use a watchtower to make this, but it’s not practical, in my opinion.

But even so, you can just hop to another server and come back inside the base.

It’s fun, make the game not so boring. But the bases system has too much to improve. They need to make fair to raid and defend bases.

 exactly - @GutMaster

So many people wanted basebuilding. They were not necessarily the best informed players, or long term players. Check their contributions to this forum over the last several years. [easily done]

The single problem was that NOT ANY of these people who wanted base-building, suggested what they would DO WITH base-building when they got it.

After more than 3 years of calling for "basebuilding" and smothering any discussion of alternatives (there were many) with the single "basebuilding" shout - eventually DayZ went with the mob,  and the players were given the lego bricks they need for "basebuilding"

If you look back in the threads and SEARCH CAREFULLY  you will find there is ZERO discussion, or even ANY SUGGESTION of what basebuilding could be FOR or how it would work or in what way it could fit into DayZ gameplay.

People wanted "basebuilding" and did not NOTICE that they wanted something that was

"COOL"  but with ZERO functionality.

Now they have what they wanted.

A cool thing with zero functionality.

Now they  START to wonder what they should DO with this stuff they have wanted for so LONG.  What is if FOR? They will have to search deeply in their <"dreams"> ? <"fantasies"> ? and find out WHY they wanted BASEBUILDING.

The only suggestions in threads so far (repeated a hundred times) are :

1) Make them INVULNERABLE
2) Make them like PUBG
3) Isolate EVERY Xbox server (strictly ONE CHARACTER per SERVER) and local-clan basebuilding communities will be SAFE.

In the world, I think there are 2 kinds of people - & they are extremes - at one end there are players who "want bases" (whatever they are, whatever they may be,<<We want them, we don't need a justification, they are COOL.. OK?  ..and if they are not Cool, then they SHOULD BE>>.  But those players don't seem to know why they so keenly wanted bases, what to do with them, how to fit them into the game without destroying it, and what to use them for now that they have them (as objects) , or how to improve their element by element design, fitness for purpose, or simple function - Interestingly, they  don't want sane suggestions that will work for ALL players:  those inside or outside "the base".
It seems not the base-player business to discuss what bases "are" or how they work. They are players good at complaining but very poor at proposing solutions.

They in general hate technical discussions, they do not read back over previous comments and threads, and they detest concepts like "game balance".

At the far, far distant other end of the entire spread of human types, there are people called "software technicians, games designers & software engineers."

These "designers" want to produce a GOOD GAME
They have been working on a game that (deliberately) has an intense minority appeal - for years.

Now they must dedicate themselves to :

Producing a non game-breaking Technical SOLUTION ;
To satisfy a majority who do NOT KNOW what they WANT.

An interesting problem. I have watched it's development for several years. My opinion is that UNTIL players reach a consensus on WHAT BASES ARE FOR on and how their advantages and disadvantages (as in chess : as in any game) can be brought into an equilibrium
AT
-  functional
-and software
-and game-play level,

there will not be progress.

Base builders will have to start thinking technically about how to improve the game for their opponents as well as (selfishly) for themselves. If the OTHER player has an indestructible base  it is NO FUN at all.. right?.. But your own base should be fairly indestructible AND easy to build, OK?

- ? - this makes sense - ? -
