That's a good question. I think It should negate core health loss, but still cause bleeding. ...Like self defense wounds in real life

Well, you can block by holding LT and moving backwards. Its supposed to be that you block with whatevers in your hands and being un armed against weapons wont help much. It will be fixed at some point. Its just a game though.
