Announcing a new community server that went online on New Year's Day 2019!

The Random Spawns and Forecasted Weather Server will have the following setup and configuration:

SETUP

  • SERVER LOCATION: West Coast of North America (Pacific Time Zone - currently GMT-8)
  • SERVER UP TIMES: Daily PST 4:00am to Midnight (server will be down 4 hours/day for maintenance/backups/patches/updates)
  • CHENARUS GAME TIME: Time in game will match actual server time using the Summer Solstice day as every day of the year for maximum daylight hours
  • SCHEDULED RESTARTS: Every 2 hours (0600, 0800, 1000, 1200, 1400, 1600, 1800, 2000, 2200 and shutdown for 4 hours at 0000)
  • MAJOR MAINTENANCE: The server will be down all day on the last Sunday of each month to perform Windows updates, server log cleanup, etc.)

CONFIGURATION (Updated January 14, 2019)

  • First-person server (1PP)
  • 60 slots (increased from 30)
  • Cross-hair disabled
  • Persistence backups every hour
  • No mods, other than the configuration changes listed below
  • Mostly a Survival server with some PvP periods
  • KOS is acceptable, but discouraged -- more fun to meet new people and have an adventure
  • Different daily random spawn-in points for new spawns depending on the day of the week (see the schedule below)
  • Different weekly random spawn-in points for infected (not all of them spawn in relation to player position -- some of them wander in hoards -- you may even see them between towns)
  • Different weekly random spawn locations for vehicles and heli crashes (they could be anywhere on the map)
  • Vehicles spawn fully assembled (water, oil, gas, field transceiver and spare battery in the trunk!)
  • New spawns arrive with only 2 rags and 1 random piece of loot (could be anything from an apple to a gun)
  • New spawns at night (8pm to Midnight PST GMT-8) also arrive with 2 road flares to help you find your way in the dark
  • Loot on infected has been eliminated for slightly more hardcore survival
  • Loot increased slightly at places like deer stands, police stations and schools
  • Loot re-spawn rate reduced significantly to help eliminate loot cycling
  • Weather for the current period (until next restart) and upcoming period (after next restart) forecasted in the Server Messages
  • Weather will change gracefully over time (i.e. it won't go from clear skies to heavy rain in one restart)

... and finally, saving the best for last ...

  • THAT !#$%@#$ ROOSTER IS EXTINCT ON THIS SERVER!!!! :)

SERVER SCHEDULE

  • Mondays:  Mamino/Mogilevka/Msta/Myshkino Mondays (all new spawns are within the vicinity of the selected town - different town selected each Monday)
  • Tuesdays:  Western Play (all new spawns could spawn anywhere west of Novy Sobor)
  • Wednesdays:  Wide Open Wednesdays (all new spawns could spawn anywhere on the map)
  • Thursdays:  Eastern Play (all new spawns could spawn anywhere east of Stary Sobor)
  • Fridays:  A to Z Firefights (towns selected in alphabetical order for PvP - players spawn near the selected town with random weapons/ammo in their inventory)
  • Saturdays:  Event Day (various events will happen - check out the server's forum at http://rsfw.forumotion.com/ for details)
  • Sundays:  Sunday Swim for the Heli of it (all new spawns could spawn anywhere along the southern coast area - Skalisty and/or Prison Islands will spawn helicopter crashes)

NOTES ABOUT PERSISTENCE

There will essentially be periods of persistence (Sunday to Thursday) and non-persistence (Friday and Saturday) on this server.  If you wish to build bases, pitch tents, hide loot, etc. you may do so and hourly backups of the world will take place during "normal" play from the start of day on Sunday to the end of day on Thursday.

During PvP Day on Friday and Event Day on Saturday, the world will be wiped on these days, but will be restored once completed.  This means whatever character and gear you had and whatever items were present in the world on Thursday night will be restored on Sunday morning.

In the event of a server crash (which might corrupt the persistence files), the most recent complete persistence backup will be restored and the server restarted which will hopefully minimize persistence loss, but be aware, 100% persistence is not guaranteedBackups will occur hourly during persistence days (Sunday to Thursday).

We're about to have our first event weekend on this new server -- hope some of you will come and check it out!

Search for the word "weather" (without the quotes) in your server browser filter or connect directly via 23.106.215.64:2302

Every Friday, we will have a PvP session at the next town in the alphabetical list.  Since this is the first one, we're kicking it off in Balota!

Here are the highlights of this event:

  • Each character life is 2 hours maximum as you'll start again with each server restart
  • Players will spawn-in somewhere within the area shown in the picture above with a different random inventory each life
  • Players will have a primary and a secondary weapon on them, with mags and/or ammo for each and with some having scopes and suppressors as well as a random melee weapon.
  • During the night periods (8 to 10pm and 10pm to Midnight -- game time same as server time), the primary will be either an AK or SVD with the Kazuar night scope
  • You will have only 2 rags and one other random piece of loot on you -- keep in mind that the trees are your friends -- plenty of apples, pears and plums to eat for hydration and energy
  • The airfield and Balota itself will also have plenty of loot if you need resupply
  • All the infected have been given sleeping pills for the day, so they won't interfere in all the rootin' tootin' shootin'

Come out and get your snipe on this Friday and every Friday on this server -- Random Spawns and Forecasted Weather -- 23.106.215.64:2302

Saturday is Event Day on this server and we're kicking it off with hopefully some actual traffic in Chenarus!

Here are the highlights of this event:

  • All new spawns will spawn-in near a fully-assembled vehicle
  • Players will be carrying a backpack containing enough fluids to get the car running
  • There will be dozens of cars all across the map, so if you spawn in and the car isn't there (probably taken by someone else), just respawn for a different location
  • Once you're on the road, tune your handheld receiver to 96.6 to meet up with others

NOTE #1: Your first order of business should be to top up all the fluids as you will only have the minimum amount of water, oil and gas on you to get the car running without it overheating or breaking down. This won't last long though, so make sure to loot more liquids ASAP, beginning with water for both you and the radiator!

NOTE #2: Due to the randomness of the car spawns, they sometimes are clipping trees or buildings. If you find one in such a state, AVOID IT OR DIE! Attempting to enter a vehicle that is clipped into something else with result in instant death, so trust me, just respawn to find another one.

There's no set rules for the event regarding the cars.  We could have street races, we could have a smash-up derby or we can just try and run each other over, I suppose.

If you haven't experienced driving a car yet because it was too tedious (or deadly) to assemble them, here's your chance to drive some and hopefully have some fun doing it!  See you down the road a ways!

We have some more PvP for you this coming weekend!

dayz-berezino-pvp.png

Friday, January 11, 2019 from 4:00am to Midnight PST (GMT-8)

Search for the word "weather" (without the quotes) in your server browser filter or connect directly via 23.106.215.64:2302

Our second Friday PvP session takes us to Berezino this time!

Here are the highlights of this event:

  • Each character life is 2 hours maximum as you'll start again with each server restart
  • Players will spawn-in somewhere within the greater Berezino area -- some in nearby trees/grass and some right smack in the middle of town
  • Players will have a primary and a secondary weapon on them, with mags and/or ammo for each and with some having scopes and suppressors as well as a random melee weapon.
  • During the night periods (8 to 10pm and 10pm to Midnight PST GMT-8 -- game time same as server time), the primary will be either an AK or SVD with the Kazuar night scope
  • You will otherwise have only 2 rags and one other random piece of loot on you
  • All the infected have been given sleeping pills for the day, so they won't interfere in all the rootin' tootin' shootin'

For this event, the skies are guaranteed to be clear all day long and your primary weapon will have a good scope on it, so spotting your targets should be a piece of cake, right?

Here are the highlights of this event:

  • All new spawns will spawn-in around Rify, with the shipping vessel being the focal point of the event
  • Players start with a scoped primary weapon, at least 100 rounds for that weapon as well as a suppressed Makarov for a secondary weapon, also with at least 100 rounds
  • During the night periods (8 to 10pm and 10pm to Midnight PST GMT-8 -- game time same as server time), the primary will be either an AK or SVD with the Kazuar night scope
  • You will otherwise have only 2 rags and one other random piece of loot on you
  • If you are still alive, your character will persist through restarts, but just for the day -- the world will be wiped at the end of the event -- how long can you survive the PvP battles?
  • Unlike on Friday, the infected are very much awake today and a hoard of them may be nearby, so be ready!

See you on the east coast of Chernarus this weekend for some fun PvP!

Survivors,

I have made the following changes to this server in the hopes to increase the interest level and player count:

  • It is now a 60-slot server (increased from 30)
  • Persistence backups every hour
  • For those looking for a harder survival experience, I have now eliminated loot completely from the infected (was previously reduced by half)
  • The result of this is that canned food has also been reduced, but is still present in certain areas and sometimes can be found in the containers of certain items like backpacks
  • The loot re-spawn rate has been significantly decreased to help reduce loot cycling
  • Cars now contain a spare battery and a Field Transceiver for wide map in-game communications -- I will be on frequency 96.6 if you want/need to talk to me when I'm online -- hop on and say hi before you kill me lol!
  • Finding a car and getting it going is now a piece of cake -- there are several of them parked on the runway at the Northeast Airfield, fully-assembled
  • Their trunks contain everything you need to get them operational (12 bottles of water for a full radiator; 4 bottles of motor oil; a Jerry can full of gasoline):

PERSISTENCE

dayz-stash.png

Persistence seems to be working fine on this server, so if you're looking for a reliable place to build a base or hide your loot, give this server a shot!  As a special bonus when I launched this server, I buried a sea chest somewhere on December 31, 2018 just prior to launching the server on New Year's Day.  I took the above screenshot today (Sunday, January 13, 2019) and the stash is still there!  Check the in-game server messages for a clue as to where it's buried and then go get it -- lots of goodies in that chest!

Not sure if I am allowed to comment on this thread but here goes:

I really enjoy the server and I think you've set up DayZ in a really interesting way.  I love that the cars are working and simple to find and that the loot is more unforgiving.  I also appreciate the 1pp.  The field transceiver in the car trunk is a great idea.

Only thing I wish is that there was a server similar to this on the East Coast because I keep getting kicked for high latency.

All this to say, keep up the good work!

  • Thanks 1

Thanks @aaronlands I'm glad you're enjoying it.  I will bump up the maxping value a bit which will hopefully reduce the frequency of your kicks.

Today, Thursday, January 24, 2019 will be the final day of this server in its current form.

I have been in discussions with a map developer who goes by the handle @mikejaus here on the forums.  He has created a fantastic new map that he calls Tarrin and he has agreed to let me be the first community server to host it.  My plan is to spend the next several days tweaking and testing the setup and assuming it all goes well, I will be swapping Chernarus out for the Tarrin map which will go live on Monday, January 28.

I will be starting a new thread here in this forum for the new version of the server.  I would like to thank those of you that played on this server -- the new version with the Tarrin map will have a lot of the same setup and will also be "persistent-friendly" as the regular backups of persistence that were occurring on this server will also happen on the new one, so come to Tarrin starting on Monday and build those bases!

I will leave it at that for now.  I would like to thank Mike for the opportunity to showcase his map.  For more information about the map, check it out on the Steam Workshop here: https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=1597789546&searchtext=
