I was on a server today with sunshine and thick fog. Maybe it's to lower draw distance and increase fps?

All i can say is that i never had issues on my X from day one. I remember being impressed at the draw distance and smoothness back in august/september.

Only problem i had back then was in Severograd and Novomidtrosk where the fps was horrible. But now...even small villages, open fields etc are stuttering, freezing and really slow fps.

I believe it's all added features and bases, stashes and items around the game world, they must eat up memory like crazy.

The clouds also contribute to the big lag spikes.

I believe they lowered the resolution on them to get a bettet experience. Atleast they look lowrez now..
