Killed a survivor found a VSS on his body.

I can't find it on the loot tables. Has this player acquired this weapon through nefarious means? It was on one of the Dallas servers and he was afk in the South Barracks at airfield. I didn't catch his name since it was veteran and he was afk and thus didn't d/c or anything.

Can someone advise me if it's a legitimate weapon or not for the latest patch? I get the feeling a silenced sniper weapon would be OP.

Seen it mentioned being found by another player and there was no mention of it being a bad thing back then so I am guessing its a uber rare weapon spawn. Congrats... let me know when you are online and need to go afk and I will happily guard you to make sure nothing untowards happens and you lose it... yeah... trust me!

I heard you can tell if it's legit or not if it has a little picture and description of the weapon on the bottom left when you have it highlighted in gear.

it's not in the database, IIRC it's not a legitimate weapon, and as such, can get you banned for using it

If that's the case it would be legit. A few guys have been telling me it's a legit weapon but super rare.

If it's not in the loot tables (which it is not) then it's not a legitimate weapon.

So ye, I wouldn't pick it up. You won't be able to find ammo for it anyway.

I checked the files. The VSS is not in the looting tables. Neither is the VSS ammo. The VSS is definately not a DayZ weapon, since there's no reference to it in any of the files. So it's definately a weapon that entered the game through nefarious means.

Know that people have been banned for carrying "unauthorized" weapons that have been spawned by cheaters. So use the VSS at your own risk. You have been warned!

Whilst it may not be in the loot tables, he (assuming he is telling the truth of course.) said he found it on a guy he capped. assuming again the truth, its not his fault for picking it up and using it, what if he was a regular player without forum, or without access to loot tables.. he should be banned for it? hell no.

Rocket HAS stated that they have methods and means in place for finding out who is doing it, and will ban for it, he has to my knowledge at NO point said he would ban somebody just for using one, but for spawning them and using. big difference, it would be a sad sad day when somebody gets banned because they scored a kill on the guy who IS spawning things!

so please stop the scaremongering of the poor guy, he is fine.

I think it is in the script files but isn't in the loot tables yet. There was a post about different tiers of weapons, but most of them aren't in the loot tables that have been shown. IMO if you find a weapon it should be fine as long as you do not spawn it. But then again, I don't have any power over bans.

Wouldn't it be fairly easy to make it so the game authenticates your kit before you spawn and removes all illegal items? Perhaps even have each server do a periodic check of items against the master database.

Just because you did not cheat for the gun does not mean you will not be banned. My group found a dead bandit with a hacked in gun and one of my friends picked it up. He immediately was kicked from the game and banned for ALL dayZ servers.

If you check Rockets list he is on there for being auto banned by the server and explaining to Rocket so far has done nothing.

So seriously, if it has no picture don't pick it up.

Scaremongering or saving him from a ban? People have been banned for simply picking up hacked weapons. I feel people must be informed about that fact, so that they can make an informed decision.

Personally, I won't ever tough a weapon if it's not in the looting tables. Sure, the DayZ team only tries to punish the guys who are vandalizing the game. But the DayZ team are people and people make mistakes, and so you might get banned for carrying an unauthorized weapon, even if you didn't spawn it yourself. The risk is too great when you can get banned from the ENTIRE mod... FOREVER! ;)
