Pullinga Willson 14 Posted September 20, 2018 With the release of the server files for the PC, what does it mean for users on console? Are we one step closer to private servers? Will we be able to host a server on our own hardware or will they be on a third party service? Am I barking up the wrong tree and dreaming? Thanks and keep up the hard work. Skruffy 167 Posted September 20, 2018 Well, these server files are so people can create private servers. Yes it is a step closer to the goal. Regardless of PC or Xbox, I would imagine to host official open servers, there will be some sort of rental service. Like ark did with nitrado, or battlefield 4 did. Where you pay like dollar amount for x amount of time. And once it is up, if you havent paid again. Itll shut down. I think right now the pc is inching toward player dedicated servers. Where it will consume your CPU and RAM and spin up a server instance locally, and then allow you to play through the client. Itll wreck your CPU but that's where I see it. People with 2 pcs would utilize this but I dont think you can have steam accounts logged in on 2 computers. This could of course be the non dedicated approach where when you quit the client. The server goes down. Sustainable for small private servers. The hosting/owning/renting that everyone wants would be done with official dedicated where we would rent a server from bohemia and their hosting company, to then have a 24/7 running server. The owner could then promote admins and moderators, while utilizing an owner/admin menu. So they can adjust server resets, name, time cycle, spawning, server restrictions. All that stuff.
DayZ Base 2 Posted September 20, 2018 ^ Yep. Just how I think it'll be. Like all Battlefield games lately, we can rent a server for x amount of time for x amount, and there are options as well. I really hope that comes soon! :-)
xhardcorefishx 66 Posted September 20, 2018 It could also be free, if u have the hardware ( a second console ? ). The devs atleast said that for PC so they might be able to make it for us as well. It would be a Peer to Peer connection though that means the Host would benefit more, if he/she gets involved in a firefight. The only Problem i see is then server Performance, possible player numbers etc. A Xbox X could probably handle it ez, but that are just my speculations. We will see
