The devs haven't found a way around server hopping, it's a shitty thing to do, but if you do it then whatever, more fool on you for cheating and not playing the game properly. In response to your OP, no there isn't currently a way to tell, if you're starting with a newcomer (I'm presuming you mean you're joining with a friend to help them) you may benefit from joining a somewhat 'low pop' server to start with. Then when you guys get into the server just look out for the 'server will restart in xx minutes' at the left side of the screen. Waited the hour played a server only to have that one reset in 10 minutes. You cant join your last server if it kicked you so joining the next high pop server is kind of a must.
