gambla 118 Posted December 23, 2016 I can't connect to Steam neither Program nor Browser. And in offline mode I get kicked when joining any server due "auth failed". I just like to know if it's the same for you guys ? Forcing players / customers to be always-steam-online is what I really don't like at all, to be polite in my wording. gambla 118 Posted December 23, 2016 Thanks man, found that site too. I've also read that Steam was offline last year Christmas time too and a rumor that it's a possible DDOS attack (again). But I have to say I don't care what exactly it is. We are customers and we've bought this game from BI, and sorry to say this, but I don't give zero f****s if any other third party involved goes offline. If they don't get their sh.. together again and again, then please BI change your auth policy for your products. Questions from a customer to BI: - What's the status of the incident ? - Is there any ETA yet ? - Is there any communication ? - What is the backup- /fallback plan ? - Since it not happened the first time, why isn't there any solution implemented yet ? - What is done to prevent these incidents in the future ? thanks
HaseDesTodes 315 Posted December 23, 2016 i take the liberty on answering: 2 hours ago, gambla said: - What's the status of the incident ? - Is there any ETA yet ? steam back online since around 19:52 GMT+1 2 hours ago, gambla said: - Is there any communication ? Steam isn't exactly know for good communitaction. so i guess not 2 hours ago, gambla said: - What is the backup- /fallback plan ? no backup plan, just wait 2 hours ago, gambla said: - Since it not happened the first time, why isn't there any solution implemented yet ? because its not nessecary. cou can still play DayZ 99+% of the time, some hours of downtime have to be accepted. DayZ has steam services integrated (like player indentification through steam and server browser through steam), so you can't simply put in a second system for backup reasons. 2 hours ago, gambla said: - What is done to prevent these incidents in the future ? nothing, reason see above
gambla 118 Posted December 23, 2016 Thanks for the answer but these questions were for BI, not Steam, not players. No comms, no backup, and no precautions after previous incidents is just not professional at all. And as it happened before it DOES seem very necessary. If it was indeed a heavy ddos attack, then it won't be always hours but can lead to days of downtime. That doesn't have to be accepted at all. And since Mirai is public, I don't see it getting better any time soon. Putting in alternative ways of authorization IS possible and just a matter of money.
