Anyone have hostage situations like this anymore?

I just get KOS now, what about you guys? Is there a better server for encounters like this?

KOS has indeed become standard procedure. The fact that hardly any game aspect apart from PvP (please gimme more guns ...) has been developed to a reasonable extent leaves little incentive for anything apart from PVP. Add to that that weapons, food, everything is easy to come by. No need to rob food from anyone ...

and last but not least ... to be quite frank, if hostage situations end up with me having little to nothing left and maybe broken legs, a newspawn is easier. I havent had any hostage situation for practically 2 years - if I had one, I would just probably let them kill me, there is nothing to gain by letting me take hostage.

More game elements, rarer items, a med system, a specific skill system (not 10% faster, but "i can what you can't"), more necessity for teamwork. That's what the game needs. Unfortunately what is discussed is "why don't we have the Mauser gun in game" ....

I agree with you, The game definitely lacks teamwork.

I'm hoping, when they release the dynamic zombies in the next patch it will make the game slightly more difficult from a PvE perspective. So in order to hit a military barracks you need a couple of players in order to fend off the zombies.

I think KOS is fine between 2 or more full kitted survivors. But any scenario where there is an opportunity for a friendly encounter, that should happen!

I love situations like in the video. That's why I started playing Mod, to be honest. The only place I actually am able to interact with players is on RP servers. RP KoS rules are garbage. The encounters are either strange or "bandits" try to make you disobey their orders so they can shoot you.

DayZ standalone currently adheres to the a completely open sandbox concept (ala Minecraft or Garry's Mod without the various game modes). If player interaction is desired then the devs will add more items to create situations where player interactions can take place or add other game modes. I, personally, would welcome a game mode that inhibits KoS or makes PvP opt-in (faction-based). The most vocal players from the community seem to be against something like this. Since the devs seem to listen to the loudest voices your best bet is to wait for modding support.

I think, possibly, what DayZ standalone needs to incorporate is base building and safe zones specifically as a key element to the game.

That way it can bring players together in a forced friendly environment. 

It will increase friendlier encounters. To be honest, there's a number of  things yet to be released on the game which would drastically improve this issue.

The major problem are the "streamers/youtubers". Just as you will not watch someone play civilization, noone will watch you surviving. As interesting as it might be for the player, it's a torture to watch.

Thus, fast cut PvP action is what gets the youtube hits. People might go there and see "booooooooh, frag fest in Cherno is highly popular, that's what people want" - ignoring that it took 2 hours of jogging for the fight to happen and that surviving and other game content can be highly immersive and interesting as well. I guess it partially matches the "vocal players" concept, although I might rather say "vocal youtube players". Devs have also been holding sessions with youtubers, which I think is counterproductive to game development as such, especially as it focusses on already established content.

Edit: No, as with vehicles, bases alone are more likely to be the basis for some more "pew pew". We would need game elements which - like in real life - honor teamwork. I mean, not everyone of us is a plumber, cook, doctor and electrician at the same time. This obviously not going into the skill tree is a wasted opportunity imho. The rudimentary med system as well, would be so much potential.
