Mookie (original) 799 Posted October 6, 2016 Pretty big five hour trip last night to get together netting from the coast and burlap for full ghillie and other ghillie things. Trotting back up north, getting predictably hot, so stood ankle deep in a pond near Sinistok. I glance round at the TV. Fifteen seconds later I realise the puter screen has gone black and rather quiet. I am dead. I don't really get salty about this kind of stuff any more - this is really just a public service announcement. Don't go near water unless you're concentrating... emuthreat 2837 Posted October 6, 2016 We discovered this on experimental; I died to it a few times more than I probably should have. Did you go prone? I normally go prone and roll in shallow water until I am drenched, and then do my drinkin/purification. If you stayed standing up the whole time, then this is new to me. I think it has something to do with desynch, where the game still believes that you are lying or crouching with your head underwater. My tested and proven workaround is to stand up and run until you no longer hear splashy footsteps, then you can go safely stand back in the pond without fear of drowning in ankle-deep water. I didn't even crouch in it, let alone go prone. It was one of those very splashy shallow ponds. Just stood in it. And then I was dead. Roll on Beta!
Funkmaster Rick 373 Posted October 7, 2016 Just pretend they're already simulating life-threatening parasites in natural water sources. Wear a condom when you go swimming, kids!

Wear a condom when you go swimming, kids! Piranhas. That's what it is. It gets worse. After an entertaining two hours getting off the coast and back to a stash, I managed to confuse 'hypo' with 'hyper' and spent ten minutes in a pond without realising I was actually freezing to death instead of baking to death. Anyway, am dead. Again.... Sheesh, this game eh?

Funkmaster Rick 373 Posted October 8, 2016 Just so's you know, Mook, hyperthermia isn't fatal. The dehydration that results if you don't keep properly hydrated is, though.

Have they changed the seasons in Chernarus perhaps? I'd never before been hypothermic in 0.60. When I overheat I do try to get rid of it, first because of the annoying spammy messages, but second because it does consume hydration at a considerably higher rate than normal.
