thefriendlydutchman 160 Posted August 29, 2016 1. How Bow Damage Works Bows aren't really weapons that kill someone the moment the arrow hits someone (with allot of exceptions ofcourse) whether it be hunting or going to war so the amount of damage a bow does right now in dayz for only the hit is reasonable to me atleast, and yet the bow is so weak that to most players its not a viable weapon Proposition: Instead of the classic Hit > Dead a Bow should work like this : Hit > Bleed-out > Dead However in real life you cant just pull out an arrow, so what I propose is that either the player pulls out the arrow which will create a big wound lower the bone level drastically and hightens the shock damage, the player cannot bandage till he or she pulled out the arrow. Now if you dont want those negative effects than someone with pliers can remove the arrow safely. although arrows leave small wounds, 2-3 arrows will bleed out a player in a few minutes. a shot in the leg will instantly break the leg. The Bow Sway should be slightly controllable by holding either CRTL or Right-MouseButton (MouseButton(1)); Extra: Has been suggested to death but with a good bow system we also def. need a positional melee system like M&B or a melee system like Chivalry both are easy to implent in most engines and are fundemental for both PvE and the more frowned upon PvP
Whyherro123 2283 Posted August 30, 2016 If that is the case (and it should be, I agree with you wholeheartedly), then firearms should be even more lethal. No more "tanking multiple rounds to the chest, running away and bandaging". As with every other weapon in existence, "shot placement" is key. 3 arrows to the gut, while painful, won't kill you in any urgent sense of time, but an arrow to the hear will kill you in 30 seconds. Hell, bleeding in general should be more of a problem than it is.
-Gews- 7443 Posted September 1, 2016 The same applies to firearms. They all kill by some combination of blood loss, damage to the central nervous system and asphyxiation. A centrefire rifle just tends to do it faster and more emphatically than a bow. Handguns, not so much. So I would say firearms should also be hit, bleed, dead in many cases. Which they can be, but usually there is not enough "bleed" and it is far too easily stopped (a dirty rag, really?) You do need to remove an arrow, unlike a bullet, as the head is quite pointy and sharp, but you would not want to try to yank the arrow, not for fear of tearing tissues on the way out but because the shaft might separate leaving the arrowhead stuck somewhere in the body. According to the old-time surgeons it is better to push it right through, or to cut down, enlarging the wound to access the arrowhead, the method depending on the wound. Disagree on the leg-breaking. Arrow may not hit the bone or may pass clean through the leg, and even if it does hit bone the improvised bow isn't very powerful. Of course, we don't have this and probably never will, shots to any place on a torso will result in the same damage. A bit of RNG variation might be nice here.
