Kohlbar 270 Posted May 3, 2016 I'm just here with my AMD card hoping DayZ doesn't pander to the Intel crowd like many other games do... also really wish people would start reporting on AMD performance so the AMD crowd can have some idea of what to expect. But whatever I guess I'm not cool because I got AMD and everyone knows Intel is the best and only option for gaming blah blah blah blah...
Zervox 14 Posted May 3, 2016 (edited) What do you mean by hoping DayZ does not pander to the intel crowd? I use both AMD GPU and CPU myself, but games "lean" towards Intel CPU's because Intel cpus perform noticably better per clock than AMD(this has nothing to do with the developers of the game), it's well known for quite some time that Intel performs alot better, this has nothing to do with the rendering or anything else, does reducing the CPU vs GPU utilization help current AMD cpus, yes, will Intel perform better, no doubt, You are basically comparing a CPU using 28nm(unless you are using an AMD APU which isn't much better CPU wise) node vs anywhere between 28nm and 14nm, will AMD's next CPU arch close the gap alot when they release CPU's built on 14nm node, no doubt, by how much is yet to be seen, but there probably won't be this huge void that there is now. I rarely see people say that AMD is useless in games, but compared to Intel, AMD does perform worse and in some cases noticably worse, about this making your cool or not is irrelevant(sounds like the boasting back in pre 2000 years when the one who had the biggest harddrive, or had 10% more memory than the others was the king of nerds), what makes you uncool is the 'blah blah blah'. by AMD card that would be GPU in which case the only competitor is NVidia and they are constantly trading blows anyways. Personally, I am happy in anyway they optimize the game to move more things which belongs on the GPU from the CPU, as that is just good practice for system utilization, which benefits everyone, one of the major reasons DirectX12 and Vulkan was made as well(either better performance for the same things, or more game logic or even with a more powerful GPU possible for even more impressive graphics) Edited May 3, 2016 by Zervox
Your Adept Hero 5 Posted May 4, 2016 I mean, I have an integrated graphics card (Intel HD Graphics 4460) and I run DayZ fine on medium-ish low settings. Maybe I can run it even better with the new DirectX11 on higher settings :)
Konfucious K 183 Posted May 5, 2016 Yeah intel CPUs are better than AMD, but the new Zen architecture will bring everything on par with Intel. As for nVidia, their Maxwell Generation of cards is already showing signs of an unceremonious collapse at DX12 and Vulkan. Right now your best value-per-dollar is Intel CPU and AMD GPU. But I'm pretty sure but guessing this game has been developed with Gameworks so it will be difficult at first for AMD to catchup with drivers. But it's ok AMD users, the next generation will belong to you. As for benchmark testing, be very cautious who you believe and follow, probably 2 or 3 reliable sites/youtubers out there.
