MarchmelloMan 16 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) Hey guys, I have played DayZ since the very beginning (christmas 2013/2014 and played complete 2014) but paused one year (complete 2015). I have already read a lot about it but some minor questions are still unanswered, perhaps some of you can help me here. First; I played ~4 hours now since I returned, not much, but I keep having trouble finding munition - already looked in most of the buildings of elektro and cherno, foremost fire stations, schools, police stations etc. but instead of discovering munition I got my 5th handgun and found the 6th main weapon - did they transfer munition to the inland perhaps? Just wanna ask so I dont keep searching forever here.. Second; Foods and drinks are somehow scarce, is it only that I am unlucky or did they lower the chance to find these things? Third; The last thing I know is that they introduced heli crash sites - in the time I played the airfields have been the big looting spots for military stuff, is that still the case or is it rather worth to go inlands? I know I can look for it myself, but I will never know it for sure since I can also be just unlucky when I go looting. Would be nice if someone could answer some of these. Happy to be in Zombieland again. See you! Edited January 12, 2016 by MarchmelloMan
Red_Ensign 990 Posted January 12, 2016 ammo is still everywhere. maybe not raining ammo like before, but it's practically everywhere. find the ammo first and then pick up the gun for it, not the other way around. and if you don't spray ammo at every person you see, you'll find it faster than you use it. and food's really not scarce at all. you can never touch a can and have plenty of food. you can only eat from cans and have plenty of food, currently. MarchmelloMan 16 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) Thanks for the information find the ammo first and then pick up the gun for it, not the other way around. That tip practically opened my eyes! So I throw away every weapon until I find ammunition (after a long time). And then I have no weapon, which means I can start again looking for a weapon, alright.Question: Would you also advice me to throw away all the magazines (if they are empty) until I find the right ammunition and then start looking for the magazines? And I guess if I have these things, I should start looking for the weapon, right? Now I got it I think.I guess now I just have to close a deal with the admins of the server or whomever that they will throw the ammo at me first, then the magazines, and then the weapons. Red_Ensign 990 Posted January 12, 2016 hold onto at least 1 or every type of mag as long as you have room, just because they don't take up too much space. then if you come across a gun to match, you're set. most of the guns will still work without a mag, but you'll be limited to single shots, so it's not the end of the world if you don't have the mag
tobias winfro 305 Posted January 12, 2016 (edited) Ammo isn't scarce inland but I still have issue finding it on the coast if I'm looking in buildings. I get most of my ammo from police cars, hunting blinds or other vehicles. Like Red_Ensign suggested, I tend to find ammo first then find a weapon just because it works out better for me personally.Canned food and soda is still out there, I have learned to live off the land once I get established but I don't have any troubles finding a few cans of beans and soda to get rid of my hunger and thirst status when I first spawn in, with that being said higher population servers may he picked clean on the coast for food.As for the military stuffs I don't know, the airfield does have loot....its just been redistributed. Jail buildings and ATC towers seem to be hit or miss for me, most of the loot I find there is in the new larger barracks with the blue doors or the rounded military barrack at the north end and then of course the tents on the north end of NWAF. The tents at myshkino have good loot too just be wary as these are still areas people go to pew pew. Edited January 12, 2016 by Tobias Winfro
eno 1049 Posted January 12, 2016 Not sure about your play style OP but if you're seeing a reduction of food then I suggest you start getting in the wiki and learning about the gardening options available... and the hunting. Animals are by no means plentiful- but when you stumble into one or a herd it is nice to be able to maximize your use of what is offered by it. Crafting fish hooks from the bones, use guts as heatpacks or ropes... Also you can craft fertilizer when combined with "plant material." Loads of meat and you can fabricate your own leather clothing after tanning the pelts. The improvised boar skin backpack (doesn't require tanning- made that mistake already) is still my favourite- buuuuuut yeah the hunter's backpack is great too. Our group is currently collecting as many pelts as we can to totally gear up in leather clothing. A nice add on to that is that you can colour your leather... I don't think we'll run around in moccasins but pants / hats / jackets / sacs and storage vests would be pretty cool. Play on the condition that you only eat what you grow or kill... Unfortunately I don't think the bows currently work reliably enough to depend on them- but this may have been corrected. I haven't tried one in awhile. Not a ton of zombies out there- but they're there and they do add an element of tension for those first few hours. Once you start getting weapons it becomes easier- but harder at the same time as you balance out the availability of ammo with the need to expend it. Some of the cities are getting some attention as well- some slight modifications to some of the larger centers as well as some areas added in throughout the map- hunting camps etc. Still a shitload of asshats out there so approach other players at your own risk. I hate to admit it but it does add an element of tension to the game that no AI could replicate. The world requires all kinds... Good luck out there.
