Searching for stuff and actually finding it.

Recommended Posts

This ones quite simple, How about when you search for an item that you can see exists right in front of you, you find it right away? I mean, if I stand on a a rocky beach I WILL find a rock in a second. If I stand in a forest I WILL find a stick. If I pick apples from a tree where there are apples I WILL find an apple. etc etc

The only thing that happens with the current system is a big waste of time and a lot of frustration while you're looking at: "I searched and didn't find anything" ten times before you find that damn rock you've been staring at.

I feel your pain! First day in .58 stable i had to forgo a stone knife because i couldnt find a rock on the beach before i started starving to death. I think it was up to 14 attempts before i ran to an orchard to save my life.

dont like that instant-find-idea. finding a good-enough stone for a knife can sometimes take some effort - even at the beach. if inst-a-find wood why carry axe and knife? and even apple picking isnt just standing there and open ur mouth.

i normally find after 5 tries max, and remember; frustration is a dayz core mechanic.

The knife i agree but if youve ever gone camping in the woods, you know there are sticks everywhere. Ive been camping for 25 years and never once actually needed an axe for firewood. Tons of sticks everywhere and if you have a big branch/log you can usually break it between two trees by wedging it between them and pushing until it snaps.

Youd never be unable to find a stick in a forest. Thatd be like putting your hand in a lake and not finding water.

I'd say massively increase the chances of finding something like a stone on a beach. It's possible that you'd pick up a couple of rocks that maybe aren't suitable, but it wouldn't take long to find something that'd work.

When it comes to trees and bushes, how about if the tree or berry bush has apples or berries visible, there's something like a 90% chance, even 100%, to find fruit. Finding a couple of apples or berries then causes the tree/bush to no longer display the fruit, at which point the chances that you'll find something are reduced. This means that apple trees and fruit bushes are still an infinite source of food, but it's faster to gather the food without being overpowered or by introducing some arbitrary "all the apples have been picked so you're screwed" mechanic.

i didnt relate to reality, but to game balance.
