Gear vanishing if dragging new item to inventory

I know it is my own fault for not emptying my items before changing my pants, but I clicked and dragged a new pair of pants onto my character screen and the pants I was wearing, the bandages, the 30 5.45x39mm and most importantly my compass vanished. Poof. No more in the world. 

 

Is there any way to get them back or do I just need to look for a new compass? The rest I don't really care about.

This seems really bad at the moment. If you can get back into the same server (check about 3/4 of the way down your .cfg file for its name and IP), look around where you were. Sometimes it's there but has magically appeared a few feet away, or on the other side of a wall, building, etc. Sometimes just logging in and out will work, but I've tried that recently and it doesn't :(

Usually items like this pop into the vicinity as mookie says.  Check outside the building you were in especially, or up/down a floor etc.  The inventory is really messed up right now though, so I wouldn't be surprised if things straight up disappear.

Yup, you can find them usually one floor below. If you're unlucky they move to a place where you can't see them anymore. Happens quite often.

It was the Curse of Green Mountain. There's no bugs in DayZ. Only paranormal activity.

Thanks I tried those, it was in the school on the 2nd floor so I went up, down and all around including the roof. I'm used to things moving floors but this time they were gone.
