can someone walk me through on how to plant a landmine?

Was the mine damaged when you picked it up? You probably were on it while activating, or you were too close. Not sure, I pass by tons of mines. Always skip them for the same result that happened to you.

I have planted and activated both a bear trap and a land mine recently.

In both cases, I retained all my limbs and face.

With the land mine, unless if has been activated before, you have 3 seconds to get away from it.

Not the case with the bear trap, but I just backed away and it didn't go off.

I suspect it gets trickier if you are planting a land mine that has previously been planted and activated as I understand that you no longer get 3 seconds to get away and therefore, chanced of your hit box triggering it accidentally are high.

Not sure if condition affects them.

few people know you can actually cook on a landmine.  just activate it and attach a cooking pot.  it may take several tries but be patient.

I've tried this and can confirm it works.

Set it down, move away, and then slowly approach until you get the option to activate it, putting as much distance between you and the mine as possible. First time I tried one out I blew myself up, but the next two tries went smoothly.

i've got one in my backpack. If I can remember which private hive it's on, I'll try it out. Damn thing takes up too much space anyway.

 

edit: WOBO did the test already, apparently the mines are only triggered by survivors, and not by gunfire, zombies or vehicles.

Found my first landmine last night in an apartment building in Elektro. I set it in a hallway and tried to bait someone to run over it... until the server restarted. Going to try again some other time.

LOL I got a bambi in a low pop with one, although it didn't exactly go as planned... I set it up at the bottom of the stairs in the Cherno fire station, and I found a bambi outside... ran around with him for a bit, and then said "Hey, there's usually some good loot in the fire station..." I led him there, and he saw the mine... stopped to look at it a few seconds, and then walked by, up the stairs...

 

When he came back down, I had my shotgun in my hand and I said "Hey buddy, I'm gonna need you to walk back into that corner...." He starts walking into a different corner than where the mine is, and I said "Nah bra... THAT corner..." He got the hint, promptly walked over to the mine, and a glorious explosion occured... which actually blew my legs off b/c I was too close to the explosion lmao. I had to crawl outside to chop a bush down to make a splint, but it was so worth it lol

Heard something about them detonating while standing and activating. Try crouching or going prone before activating (from a safe distance).

 

I've seen plenty of mines since I heard this tip, but I'm too attached to my gear to try it out.  :D

 

Unrelated Fun fact: You can commit suicide with a pen (F11).
