sgthoppy 3 Posted April 5, 2015 I've been working on a simple program lately that allows you to generate random personalities for your DayZ characters. It's oriented at roleplaying, but can be used any way you like. I will take any suggestions into consideration for it. To submit a suggestion, create an issue on the Github page or post a comment here. I don't mind any criticism, be it constructive or otherwise. All that being said, yes, it's an exe that you'll just have to trust unless you want to take 5 minutes to compile it yourself.
deadjuice 64 Posted April 6, 2015 (edited) I'm interested in this, but I'm no coder. I'm going to bookmark this for when it becomes something my caveman fingers can just poke the shiny buttons on for results. Also, imho, I don't know if "Nationality" should be a part of the list. This might ruin personalities when you're trying to emulate a particular accent. It's optional, but I think it's unnecessary. WilliamTheConqueror 81 Posted April 6, 2015 Very interesting, kinda like improv games. Normally, if I want to roleplay something, i just sit for ten seconds to think of a random situation. Truethfully, this progran is just a way to come up with a random idea with out thinking of it ourselves. I can see the appeal, it seems kinda pointless. The only nationalities it generates are Takistani (Ukraine's equivalent in ArmA lore), Russian, Northern/Southern Chernarussian, and Kiwi (New Zealand), and you're more than welcome to ignore any generated aspects. For example, if a female Kiwi fisherman afraid of clothes is generated, but you have your default character set to male and you dislike having minimal clothing, you could just be a male fisherman. This is really just to build a base to your characters. Tell us, more..More? Very interesting, kinda like improv games. Instead, you waste 20 seconds! And I understand how it could seem pointless to you, but for the last few years my brain's "creativity center" has basically shut down so having a random generator like this helps quite a bit. deadjuice 64 Posted April 26, 2015 I was reading the details, missed the part where you linked to the executable version. This program keeps you from wasting 10 seconds. Instead, you waste 20 seconds! Lol And I understand how it could seem pointless to you, but for the last few years my brain's "creativity center" has basically shut down so having a random generator like this helps quite a bit.I feel you on that. Someday you just can't come with anything compelling, other days, you can't decide on what to stick with. You don't have to let it be creative for you. You can use it as a base or inspiration for a personality.
deadjuice 64 Posted April 26, 2015 (edited) I just tried it, and it's surprisingly detailed. I like it. A female Russian named Julia. Was formally a shopkeeper. Is decked in military gear and uses a shotgun, and has a brawn approach to strategy, but is scared of combat. She's wary to trust people, but is loyal. She is also cowardly, paranoid, and addicted to painkillers. What does color reference? Their favorite color, or the color their gear should be? I thought it was an indicator of race/the character type color you'd use, initially. surf_polar 110 Posted April 26, 2015 I appreciate your work, but we live in a bleak world where people can't even muster up the will to come up with a basic character concept on the fly.

deadjuice 64 Posted June 15, 2015 I've come up with character using my imagination, that are more interesting than a personality generator can achieve (Safety Danny, coming late 2015, watch it here). That's no fault of the generator, it's very neat.I think this generator can be very useful for people trying to mix up the typical "Get geared up and find trouble/interaction" cycle everyone suffers through.I find myself doing the normal loot shit, and due to experience, trying to be nice to bambie players while not trusting them in the slightest, while trying as hard as I can, to not KoS someone, just because they ave a gun and a sweet bandanna mask. you can;t trust everyone, but you can have fun with your playtime as well.I feel some players would stop wasting time deciding if they want to and so gun, and so and so clothing, if they just had a particular experience to follow and act out.It could be healthy for some player to fuck with from time to time.I'ma go use your generator, take the first result, and make a play-style out of it. just for shit and giggle. I'll report later tonight how it worked out.In the future, I'll actually try and film it, I just need to get resources together. It will look like shit (my laptop is crap), it will probably be retarded (I'm not the best actor), but I'll do my damnest to work with what the generator gives me. it could lead to a good youtube series in the right hands. deadjuice 64 Posted June 15, 2015 Created a character, and seriously, as some feedback, you need to make the character traits copy-pastable or somethingI know you can't just make the Command-console responses be copy-past-able. But maybe you could make the program shit out a word file, or a note file, or something.Nationality: Kiwi. What in the fuck does that mean!? [one serious thing I think you should add, and I know it wouldn't be easy, but it would be awesome, would be a short description of the various traits]I kind of figured out, from a quick 10 minute google reference study, is that Kiwi is a very thick Australian accent? I'm just gonna run with it, even thought I ignored the New Zealand aspect of it (I think).Gender/Name: Male/George. Okay. Color: Green.Gear: Civilian. Okay, I can role with this. Actually sounds like fun to stick to it.Weapon: Handgun. That is something I was aiming to do anyway, pure handgun character.Honest.Addiction: Control.Ok, interesting. Not my strong suit, but I think I can work it. Phobia: People.Hard when considering the addiction, but I also think I can work it as well. Trusting: Gullible.Could be fun. It's very contradictory, but can be very interesting to develop. Strategy/Courage/Optimism: Normal.Okay, so standard human being. And somehow, I closed the window accidentally before reading the other ones, Dammit. Will work with what I have have,
