FOV & Color Settings Abuse?

Recommended Posts

I've seen ton of videos where players go to Main Menu and conveniently change their Field of View on the go while PVP

or when they play Night time servers they can change their Contrast & Brightness settings and be able to see everything.

Should the FOV and Color Settings be only set before joining a game? What are your thoughts on this?

No, it is useless to try to control this. Anyone can change the gamma and brightness directly on their graphic-card with preset buttons. FOV is different but in my opinion third person view is much more of a game ruiner than FOV.

I think they need to figure out a way to reduce the impact/power of gamma/brightness in the ''night'' servers. I'm one of the players that doesn't mind joining a night server, but I always end up turning my gamma/brightness all the way up. The only reason I do this is because I know that the chances of another player I encounter doing the same are very high, and If I'm wandering around in the dark with default settings and my weapon flashlight on, said player will easily be able to hide from me, or engage me within the darkness. I don't really see FOV as a problem, as it may give them the advantage of range, but in no way influences their ability to put rounds on target; not to mention that It makes them REALLY easy to flank.

What about we shouldn't be able to change FOV during game play, whether it's 1pp/3pp? I think FOV should be set before joinging a server.

I don't like 3PP and I think being able to change FOV on the go is same as 3PP, it allows you to become a super human with a wide angle view,

as if you instantly changed the shape of your eyes like a wide angle camera.

Changing your FOV (I believe but correct me if I'm wrong) messes up the zeroing on some scopes, so its useless if you are using something like the PSO-1 because the "integrated" range finding thing doesn't work anymore with a changed FOV. Either way, it's pretty irrelevant, as 3rd personing ruins PVP anyway.

Some people use wider FOV to be able to see and spot players easier and faster.

The thing is with FOV and 3pp is that in game it's really hard to have that sence of what's around you in the same way you do in real life... So these things help to give you a proper sence of peripheral vision (well for me anyway)

I understand exactly what you mean, but in some real life situations like if you're behind a solid concrete 7 feet tall fence, you won't be able to see what's going on the other side of it, but in the game you can conveniently see everything while hiding safely. As you said, it balances out everything, the real life vs. game, but still there are situations where a player can abuse 3PP for unfair advantage. Also, 3PP allows people to glitch through walls and ceilings, which is hard to stop. But at the end of the day, it's just a personal preference, some like 3pp some don't, and I see what you mean.

We 1PP players not trying to get rid of 3PP, it's there to stay. And if we compare wide FOV in game with real life, there is nothing wrong with wide angle FOV, as long as you chose the right view and set. But the problem is that we can change it back and forth any time we want, while in the game.

In real life survival situation people have tunnel vision, they don't have the luxury to change their vision on the go. Only digital cameras can see it that way. I think it is a lot more difficult to see everything clearly in real life than in game using FOV and high res monitor 2 feet away from you.

Completely agree on the seeing over the wall thing... It's B/S and needs to be taken out the game some how. I do enjoy 1pp servers. Ive been playing RO Darkest hour for years and that deffinatly has no 3pp so I do love playing in the 1st person

Just play on the 1pp then. I don't like the looking over walls either. When they fix the stuff where i feel like a nauseous dwarf with and fps that makes me want to throw up after 5 min i'll join 1pp too. With the FOV i don't really see that as a problem at all. Gamma is impossible to get rid of.
