sscjoker 4 Posted March 10, 2015 (edited) Hey guys, just wanted to check with any other server admins out there and see if they have experienced any issues. I am the admin of a public server that is hosted through Fragnet, it seems like multiple times a day the server just hangs up or freezes. When this happens there is no waiting it out, I have to manually restart the server. I issued a ticket to Fragnet and they finally did an update to the server yesterday by adding an additional CPU to it. I thought maybe that was the problem, but it still locked up last night and I had to restart it. Has anyone else had any similar issues and if you have were you able to fix it? Any advice/help would be appreciated, thanks guys! Server name is Professor Presto's Playground As a side note, it seems to happen a lot in the midst of some PVP when either one or a few geared people are killed. Not sure if that is just coincidence or if it is somehow related. Edited March 10, 2015 by sscjoker
The Riddler (DayZ) 410 Posted March 10, 2015 We're with Fragnet as well and have had similar issues since about .52. Just like you, we've had to restart the server manually b/c its simply frozen. We've seen far less freezes in .54 than prior, but still see an occasional freeze. Fragnet has been very helpful within their capabilities. They changed our CPU affinity settings last week and so far it seems to have helped a little bit. Our server is full nearly 24/7 and it does appear to freeze up more when the server is near full vs. when its less than half full. If you stream the log file from Fragnet you'll notice it will stop when the server freezes. At that time, I'd simply restart it so those on the server will come back rather than leave. << This is what we've done while we're at work and not able to play :)
sscjoker 4 Posted March 10, 2015 Thanks for the info, I have noticed it happening more when the server is full also. It seems to have been freezing up for me more frequently lately though, which is strange. It seems like since the most recent patch it has been a lot worse. It would do it periodically before, but it must be happening at least once a day now. I will continue to keep Fragnet updated and hopefully they can figure out what is causing it. The Riddler (DayZ) 410 Posted March 11, 2015 Send them a ticket to ensure your affinity settings on the server are correct. If not, it should help performance a little bit. Fragnet is great about response times so worth the effort. Something I've noticed when a server freezes is that people are connecting; in some cases, there are multiple people connecting at once. Possible this has something to do with the freeze/lockups? Another thread that is ongoing in this subforum highlights this issue but it was more so the case in .51 and .52. sscjoker 4 Posted March 20, 2015 I had them check the affinity and they said everything was set properly, they also said they re-ran the "query script". I am still experiencing the issue but have been keeping them updated. I got another reply from them this morning, this is what they said: "This is most likely related to a player with a corrupt inventory joining your server, essentially causing it to crash, If you could supply us with time stamps we could check your BEC logs at those times to verify this theory, else I'd recommend attempting to re-install the server." I have sent them the time stamps and look forward to their reply, I will update when I get a response.
sneakydudes 278 Posted March 21, 2015 Since they patched .54 it is much less lag then at the start of .54. We have still some horrible lag from time to time and when you close Dayz and reopen it, seems to repair the crash in dayz. Lag then disappears. I believe we have a memory leak in the game and you reminded me to look at that. I've personally been going through these small freezes of fps drops going from 100 to 17 or lower to even 1 fps.Steam FPS is turned off and it seems better, but I still get problems from time to time.I hope it gets better, because many are complaining about even starting the game. Maybe its all BEC, I don't know at this point. Fragnet seems to be running much better then Vilayer did at the time. I feel confident it will get much better as time goes on. Once they start working heavy on the bugs and such, the server software should be much better then what we see today. Hopefully they give everyone enough options on the server side for all admins. The Riddler (DayZ) 410 Posted March 21, 2015 (edited) That's good info if its indeed the issue. Good on you to send them the time stamps as well  Curious, is this player's inventory corrupted due to a cheat/hack or maybe even duplicated gear? We continue to see freezes shortly before our 2 hour restart. Its not all the time, but usually among the admins a message will get sent out to each other that the server froze and was manually restarted. Keep us updated on what Fragnet mentions. They'll probably just reply with the info that they sent this information to BI which of course is a good thing. Also it might be worth opening a feedback tracker on this.
