V3S hillclimbing, death by 9mm and improvised backpack

Recommended Posts

did a few tests on the v3s today. i already knew that the thing really disagreed with hills, but i didn't know quite how much.

for anyone who doesn't know:

V3s can't start and go above 8-10mph on even a slight incline.

V3s can't get up half of the hills in the game because of this.

when it goes downhill it goes at like 70 or something.

so at this point the vehicles are what, gravity powered?

i think this should be evened out a bit so that the v3s can climb hills and accelerate reasonably easily but only get up to 50 on downward hills.

i don't really understand why the v3s doesn't have any bonus from roads. or rather, any detrimental movement effects from grass.

i found an mp5 today, joy. i realised it was 9mm. oh god. i didn't have any mags. you can probably fill in the rest.

i kind of feel like the improvised backpack should be able to be attached to a ghillie bushrag. i mean, you have to make them both, why not just tie the bag under some other burlap?

As far as I've read the VS3 is just a placeholder for testing vehicle mechanics and desync issues with passengers at this point. I agree though, at work we had an olllllddddd semi tractor with a crane for a yard truck and even stuck in high range if you put her in 3rd and dumped the clutch on pavement she was 0-50kmh in about 10feet. If you look closely at the model for the VS it has a front diff meaning 6 wheel drive, it should have no problem with any road hill and most if not all off road terrain in game. I'm not sure how many gears the VS has in real life but I only hear 1 maybe 2 gear changes in it's current automatic version so maybe they'll add more gears or fix the ratios.

my point is that if this is the least agile vehicle and it's just for testing, then all of the vehicles will have trouble on hills and go ridiculously fast downhill. that's not really consistant with cars. most people tend to stay at a fairly regular speed which is actually hard to do with dayz's vehicle atm.

I know everything will get tweaked, the issue I have is that it's impossible to take a V3S very far unless you find one near the coast. The second you hit a hill it's game over. Again, I know it's still a work in progress - I just want my joy rides to last longer!

i wouldn't take it that far, you just have to take the hill at speed.

i noted that once you take your finger off the boost for a second you drop to 10mph while climbing

Yep when you see a hill hit the pinky power button until you crest.

Nothing wrong with the power of the truck . You are doing it wrong. It's not a Lamborghini. It's a relic of a beast that has seen better days. Treat it as such.

Use the boost key while driving I think the default is shift, It uses more gas but it also makes the V3s drive faster.
Momentum is your friend, You need to get momentum before the hill.... Just like real life if you try and take off on a hill you will go much slower than if you went full speed for a km before the hill.

An update on the vs3s hill climbing, fixed. It seems to hold speed down hills better too. Back to testing ;)
