Help - My Character Keeps Being Reset

Recommended Posts

So I've had this game for about a week and after playing on full servers and getting executed by every other player I see, I decided to play on low population servers to get my bearings / gear up / learn the game a bit.

All was going well until the server goes down or I log off, and then BAM, My Mosen, 20 rounds, my military gear, my backpack of food and drink is all gone and I'm reset to a jeans and T Shirt. This happened to me 3 times in a row which is a waste of so much time.

Last night it was different, it didn't reset my character completely, it reset to a previous version of itself. So I went from having full camp gear, SKS etc to having a fire extinguisher and bright blue raincoat. Basically the stuff I picked up in the first 5 minutes of spawning.

This is Making the game unplayable, because I want to gear up then go practice my shooting against other geared players but the game is literally not letting me do that.

How do I stop my character from resetting?

Also when I swap an item out for a different item, the item I'm dropping sometimes vansishes completely. This is annoying but now where near as bad as the character reset after an hour and a half of running around and gearing up.

Thanks, I'll try the suggestions in that thread. Has anyone dome across the bug where it doesn't reset your character completely, but takes it back in time an hour or so from having full combat gear, to basic gear?

It's stuff I looted in this lifetime, I just had not worn any of it for over an hour.

well don't quote me on this but as far as i gathered it seems that if you go back to the same kinda server your old character loads as you left him so my guess is that you played on a hardcore or privat server then went back to public were you left your old character. I took for granted as well that this was some bug but it seems like i didn't understand how things work yet.. Been playing on 5 different servers today and i managed to log into my "first" character every time as long as i choose a server that had the same properties.

Stick to a small number of servers. Pick three and make sure they are all public, and the same mode (regular or hardcore).

Next time you die or get reset, I'd just re-install DayZ.

And don't join servers that have just been reset. If a server just reset, wait till there are at least 10 or so others before you join.

Not much else you could do.

Like other said, make sure you don't join a server as soon as it's reset as it can cause character loss.

Wait until the server time clicks over so it's one minute past the hour, as long as it's not right on the hour it will have reset properly and is ready to join.

And also make sure you're safe when you log off. After logging out your character stays in the game for 30 seconds to prevent people logging off during combat. Your character is vulnerable to players and zombies in this 30 seconds.

And make sure that you're playing on the same type of server. First-person only and Third-person servers have different characters, as well as any Private Shard servers you might play.

I keep experiencing this too and its highly discouraging.  I don't mind dying for a legit reason but losing my stuff due to randcom server/character wipes is seriously lame. :(

Stop playing low pop servers. They are low pop for a reason.

Just happened to me AGAIN.. Server went down, waited, loaded back in.  Character wiped.

You know all excuses aside this is terrible.  Why am I wasting my time with this freaking game when bugs like this continue to persist? Its basic functionality that should simply work.  Its over a year since the game was released to Alpha.. what the hell are the dev team doing?

Are you waiting, till the server says at least one minute past?

This seriously hasn't happen to any of the 15 guys I play with in months.

In the latest incident I could have logged into the server as it was being or had just reset.  Presumably that is something not to do?

I still find the situation demonstrates a rather large flaw in how things work :(

Indeed, you logged in too soon. After a reset the server takes a little while to restart. If you log in too soon, it wont be able to find your character data and will reset you. A lot of servers go through a couple stages at restart they say 8:00, then jump to 9:20 and then to whatever time the server is supposed to start at. As a rule never join a server that says 8:00 (wait til 8:01), 9:20 (wait til 9:21). It is usally safe to join once it says the correct server start time, but many people wait a further minute to be sure. This is why playing a small select group of servers is key, as you will know the start times, and when it is ok to join.

You also need to make sure you're joining the same type of server. Almost every private server you join will create a new character for you. This doesnt wipe your other characters, it's just a new one for that server (and any slave servers connected to it). I recommend playing on a private server, it's more fun than public in my experience.

Hey thanks for the tip on server restarts etc.  I've only done public servers so far.  Why do you think private servers offer a better experience?

Its the same with all servers. All you need to do is keep hitting the refresh button. As long as the time stays at X:00 don't log in. When it hits X:01 it is safe. But in your case give it a couple of extra minutes after that just to be sure lol

Oh McTabish bet me too it.
