ottovonlarnie 4 Posted February 18, 2015 After almost 14 months away from both the standalone and Mod, I have returned, and here are a few of my observations thus far: 1) There are more zombies now, I reckon the zombie spawns in SA are perfect, no more or less required for the finished product. Also, the zombies are a lot more hazardous. 2)There are far fewer weapons, I mean come on wtf! Don't get me wrong I understand the Dev's are wanting to make it more difficult for you to gear up, thus increasing your eagerness to survive, but surely the game has maybe gone a bit too far. There seems to be very little in the way of even essential loot available, which makes the finding of weapons seem even more amazing when it eventually happens. 3) The everquest I have for a can opener, when I last played dayz I had everything required for the apocalypse if I had a can opener, today that holds true but there doesn't seem to be any anywhere. I know you can use a screwdriver etc. but surely in an apocalypse people aren't going to run to the local shop and clear out the can openers, surely they could be more common. 4) I still feel that the best experience is to be had on the mod, and possibly even the vanilla mod. I think having the traders in any server ruins everything. What are the biggest changes you have noticed, and what are your opinions of it?

I'm am of the exact opposite opinion than you, I want a lot more zombies and I think it is still too easy to find a gun in this game.
Death By Crowbar 1213 Posted February 18, 2015 Zombies are still a work in progress, there's still a lot coming for them. As for guns, some of the common locations you used to look 14 months ago may have changed, and also the server type you're on has an impact as well (the loot economies are still a bit screwy, I think today's update is meant to address some of that if I read the notes right). There's a ton more interesting stuff now then there was 14 months ago. I think the average Joe doesn't worry about can openers, heck, you can even open cans with a sledge hammer (which is hilarious). You'll notice some things such as the bipod are now gone, but there's a bunch of new guns and meelee weapons. Sledge hammers are so easy to find, those and garden hoes are pretty kick ass when you don't have an ax. Look in places you wouldn't have thought of before for loot (sheds, coast in boats, etc). How's the game that different for you?A headless chicken is more "hazardous" than the zombies in SA,honestly i find myself surprised you even managed to find one! Also,i don't think there has been a "substantial" firearm nerf. There is no difficulty in finding one as there are still large quantities scattered around mil. bases. Can openers spawns are fine, canned foods on the other hand are literally everywhere. This is a survival game, people should be encouraged to cook instead of looking for "can openers".
IReadTheAgreement 313 Posted February 18, 2015 14 months away from Standalone? Did you play it the day it was released and immediately stop? Anyway, there will be a lot more zombies in the future. They'll most likely have completely different appearances than now as well. If you're having trouble finding a can opener something new you can do is craft a stone knife. Those usually open up canned food for me over 90% still in the can and they only take up one inventory space. Weapons aren't incredibly hard to find, but if you want a better chance make sure you currently play on persistence off servers. Vanilla mod was always my favorite too. After playing SA for so long it's hard for me to get back into the mod anymore though.
AlphaDogMeat . 493 Posted February 18, 2015 SA zombies are still far too sparse and weak. I can take on five and not break sweat, in Dying Light it only took three to corner me and turn me into mince. I want the SA ones to be even more of a threat than that.
BadAsh (DayZ) 1513 Posted February 18, 2015 14 months away from Standalone? Did you play it the day it was released and immediately stop? Heh, good question. Even if OP had done that, it would only be 13 months, and almost to the date, since SA was released December 16 2013.
Grimey Rick 3417 Posted February 19, 2015 These threads are hilarious. Why exactly do we care what someone who's barely played the game thinks?
hekp 223 Posted February 19, 2015 (edited) 1) There are more zombies now, I reckon the zombie spawns in SA are perfect, no more or less required for the finished product. Also, the zombies are a lot more hazardous.Only when they desync. They are also more rare than weapons. 2)There are far fewer weapons, I mean come on wtf! There seems to be very little in the way of even essential loot available, which makes the finding of weapons seem even more amazing when it eventually happens. There is so many weapons it's not even funny how fast i get geared up. If i dont get a firearm in first 5 to 10 minutes, something is really wrong.Just open up the dayzdb map... its all RED.Hell, i have no problem getting fully geared up on full pop servers... I cant tell how often i see people leaving the building just so i enter it and find everything from PU scopes to protective cases. I swear people are just blind.I guess they check the police station 'cause thats obviously the only building that spawns any kind of weaponry and than they walk to another town and try their luck there...idkIm trying to figure out this phenomena for a while now.. Honestly, as it is right now, i find gearing up is way too easy. Its not even a challange. Unless you deliberately avoid it, i find it impossible not to end up with at least LRS sniper or semi auto with a PU+ full gorka set within an hr of playing. The everquest I have for a can opener, when I last played dayz I had everything required for the apocalypse if I had a can opener, today that holds true but there doesn't seem to be any anywhere. I know you can use a screwdriver etc. but surely in an apocalypse people aren't going to run to the local shop and clear out the can openers, surely they could be more common.Currently impro knife is bugged, but it takes 1 slot just like the can opener. There's plenty of can openers tho.I prefer playin the axe roulette. Sometimes i split the can and for some reason i pick the 5% end up...i would much rather suck the other 95% off the floor. Calvin Candie 189 Posted February 19, 2015 Honestly, the can openers are pointless. You can open cans with any sharp metal object. Hell, does not even have to be sharp. I vote for 100% using any object to open a can.Just make cans rarer and put in "smash can" option which would spoil random percentage of the can contents. There ya go Devs, you should hire me as your "Common Sense Guru".
