smoq2 221 Posted February 16, 2015 (edited) How do you find the ability to do 90* turns in full sprint with your mouse? Personally, I find it a bit awkward and unrealistic, although I used the "run in circles" tactic when unarmed (and shot at) countless times. No, let me be blunt here... I find it outright stupid that you are able to sprint circles around your opponent in hopes he/she won't hit you, which is what happens most of the times, unless the aggressor has a high RPM weapon or really good "twitch" skill. If you believe it's a problem, regardless whether through lack of immersion (as in my case) or simply a bad competitive aspect, how would you propose it should be solved? I know Heroes & Generals has some kind of "inertia" factor, which I find ok, but many find it unintuitive. Most games lower or lock your mouse input, so turns become sluggish when sprinting - this seems quite ok IMO too. Something more original perhaps? blowurselfup 54 Posted February 16, 2015 The quick turning is very unrealistic. I was jumping in the air...while airborne doing 360 turns B) +100 Ninja points
Warhoax 63 Posted February 16, 2015 Yeah, I hate it. The sprinting speed is to high and the turnspeed is to high, those damn freshspawns are fuckin' ninja's like that
Dagwood 680 Posted February 16, 2015 They are keeping movement speed where it is to make exploration and testing easier for us by essentially making the map smaller. When the landscape is populated by hundreds of infected and each town offers extensive gameplay opportunities, movement speed will be revised. Until then, we continue to pvp like its unreal tournament. I guess we should use this as an opportunity to become better marksmen. rybec 339 Posted February 16, 2015 The sprinting speed is to highIt really is not. The run speed is spot on, but NOBODY runs in this game. There is NO reason to NOT double tap W currently. Sprinting should stay fast, but make us have to reserve it for when we really need it, not use it for standard movement.

That would not affect pvp at all and would only slow down travel across the map; further exacerbating the current issue of coastal camping in lieu of exploring the map. The issue is how quickly we can dash and pivet. It will be fixed later. But the running speed and agility won't be fixed until zombies are implemented I would think. Simply put, the map is too big and empty right now.

What we're doing ingame is the "holy fuck I need to hustle as fast as possible" run, while the standard run isn't used by anyone. Please don't say the map is too big and empty either. Getting rid of more forest to add in some more towns nobody cares about was an awful decision. Player contact should be an uncommon (don't read that as rare) occurance, as in you get excited you met another person.Saying the map is too big, let's cut the map to a quarter of the size so we should see another person every five minutes on a full server. I mean infected. Why would we jog from town to town right now when there are only 4 things to "interact" with? We'd kill those 4, maybe loot, and then jog 10 minutes to the next town. If there were 100 infected per town, and 100 players per server, what you are suggesting would be appropriate. But it is not as the game stands currently. Can't run to tent city in NWAF from Berezino fast enough then?We put too much of an emphasis on crosscountry running when we play, I bet you do because I do too. Nuclear194 2 Posted February 17, 2015 (edited) I'm sure the sprinting will be fixed when the game is close to finished, and I really hope for a realistic implementation of the system. I imagine that when you jog/run, you should be able to move and strafe kinda freely because of the low speeds, just like real life. It's not hard to take a quick step to the left when you're joging at a low pace. When you sprint in real life, you have high momentum forward and you turn by kinda leaning to one side. I hope that when you sprint in game, a mouse movement makes your character lean to that side, and you slowly start to turn. This would make chases through wooded areas really exciting as the player who controls his character the best would make it through the forest the quickest. Same goes for towns I suppose, it should require skill and timing with the jump key to make a quick getaway. When the stamina system comes I hope you need to time your sprinting to get away from zombies. A zombie should be faster than you when you jog/run, not much maybe, but a bit faster. Eventually the zombie would catch you (and hopefully be able to grab you in some way) if you don't turn a corner or a tree and quickly sprint out of sight from it. But you have to careful as you can't sprint forever. The zombies will never be truly dangerous if you can run away from them as easily as you can now. Also, I hope your stamina increases with how well fed you are. This should be a hidden stat, but you should be able to tell that your starving character can't sprint (or even jog?) as long as a healthy character. Bororm 1156 Posted February 17, 2015 I think a good start would be putting a limit on turn speed. Then go from there. A non infinite sprint would probably be the next step. Basically, it should be like arma 2 was.

It is so incredibly difficult to shoot someone who is sprinting at full speed dodging back and forth. The fact someone with an axe can easily kill someone with a mosin or a blaze, or shotgun, is mainly due to the poor sprint mechanics. I can't tell you how many times I've almost died trying to kill some new-spawn who is circle strafing me with an axe. It is only sensible to think the devs have plans to fix these movement mechanics in the long run. I would like to see them implement some sort of system similar to the way characters move in GTA V. gibonez 3633 Posted February 17, 2015 check out the movement on this. It has momentum where you start off slow then get speed, just like real life. I suspect something like that would fix all of t he problems in movement in dayz and arma hopefully especially the strange lame jerking motion that players always do moving left right left right instantly just so they wont get shot by snipers that looks so unrealistic. Yeah, it's not just restricted to fresh spawns with melee too. That's like, the default state of pvp even between armed players depending on the weapons and circumstances. I made a thread about this and the recent survivor games recently and just how stupid it actually looked to spectate. The final bit was just guys circling each other with mosins and SKSes, and looked ridiculous. We've all been there ourselves. It's bad. Unless you're holding up in a building or are sniping, you basically are best off constantly moving with the current state of the game.

It's kinda hard to grasp from the video but when you push forward, there is a tiny gradual amount of time before you move forward at top speed. There is no lag between when you press a movement key and when you move but there is some time before you go at full speed. In dayz and in arma 3 you press forward and its almost instant 100 percent of that directions speed instantly.
