Primitive equipment: possibilities and such

Recommended Posts

So, on to cooking!

Right now, you basically NEED a cooking pot or frying pan to cook, with the new fire lays and tripods and such. This means that you HAVE to enter a town or city at one point to look for a pot/skillet. UNACCEPTABLE

There are many different ways to cook "primitively". They all involve various containers, like baskets made of birchbark or reeds, and hot rocks.

Firstly, MEAT. All you need is a flat rock next to the fire.

For anything else, you pretty much need to boil it. Boiling with primitive containers other than pottery is....relatively difficult, to the inexperienced, but eminently possible. HINT: it needs small rocks, like the ones you use to make the stone knife.

To boil water using rocks, you need a waterproof container, probably made from birchbark or woven reeds (with the interior coated in birch tar)

Now, the absolute PINNACLE of "primitive" cooking uses pottery (to make bowls, pots, skillets, ladles, etc), and the development of pottery was a major step-up in human technology. You need clay (found along river/stream banks, water, a fire, and time.
