What is your play style and goals?

Recommended Posts

Another fellow Canadian. I'm from Alberta. :D

I've found that with the latest patch I've been in more jeopardy since I started to walk. I've had more contacts in the N than for the 40+hours previous of this latest character. Twice other players got the drop on me, once in Krasnostav and once at Smirnovo. In both cases because THEY were stealth-ing around to avoid aggro they spotted me first. It's been a while since that happened. :D

On a Canadian note: When I get into the backwoods of Chernarus I feel like I'm hiking through the foothills of the Rocky Mountains and our forests. I'm very happy with the way this game looks and feels (current performance issues not-with-standing).

I play on low pop because my ping sucks, the odd player I see them goes on about their business and I change my course to avoid them.

I love the visual feel of the game even on my shitty old rig, Vancouver Island is evergreens on the hills and farms in the lowlands. Aside from the Cyrillic road signs it looks and feels like home.

Are you a group or lone wolf or both?

I play as both with small group (2-3) and lone wolf on different characters, generally my 3pp public is a group character and 1pp is my solo character, I also use private hives for both solo and small group play.

Are in a clan or are you free agent with just some fiends?

Free agent with a few friends who sometimes play with me.

Do you play to survive as long as possible or does it even matter?

Generally survival is an important element, however not to the extent of sitting in a bush somewhere and never taking a risk, but I do try to pick engagements that I can win rather than just charge in yelling LEROY JENKINS with an axe and hope for the best.

Do you pvp to survive or is something you do just for pure thrills or both?

Both for to get my rocks off and for survivals sake.

Do you have any rules of engagement? Or do treat case by case..or do you just hate everyone? Lol

I don't have many rules of engagement, I mainly try to stack the odds in my favor anyway I can (although sometimes I do lives with specific rules as to equipment and play style) the main one I have is simply that I'll never claim to be friendly and then stab someone in the back, If I want someone dead I'll kill them without saying a word or trying to deceive them into dropping their guard. Personally I think the "I'm friendly~ LOLJOKE" guys are the lowest of the low in DayZ.

Have you dabled in RPing?

Not really, I don't have a talent for it. I've tried but RP isn't really my thing.

Are you a hero or bandit? Or do you find those terms bs?

Situational bandit. I like to think of myself as being somewhat of a chaotic neutral type character who'll shoot someone dead over a tin of beans as quickly as save them, however I have done a few hero lives simply to test theories and to stave off boredom. I think bandit tends to be just a term people use when they're angry somebody killed them more often than not.

Were do gravitate urban areas or prefer being in the woods?

I try to use woodland cover where possible and limit my time in towns when I'm actively looting flow and planning are key when looting high value areas. When servers are looted out and highly populated I'll gravitate towards mid-sized towns & high traffic areas and keep myself fed by ambushing players. I don't often take fully geared characters into DM cities and when I do, It's because I want that character to die.

Do you focus on survivalist type stuff or do you just play to pvp.

Both. The PvP makes the survival exciting.

What is idea of what makes a good dayz player?

A good DayZ player is someone who can be a ghost, who knows when to sprint and when to crawl & manages their visual and sound levels to limit risk. A great player can turn his or her empathy into a weapon: Before entering a town, a great player is thinking "where would I go to ambush a player in this town" and will be patient and methodical in his approach to check danger zones and minimize exposure to likely avenues of fire. It's also very important when playing with a group that your teammates can be DERP and have a good laugh when things are quiet but serious the hell up and focus the moment things start to get heavy: Nobody wants to play with a humorless robot but equally no squad wants a liability in combat. It's also important to know your limitations, make accurate assessments of your ability to win an engagement and be cool headed enough not to push an engagement that you're likely to lose.

Are you a minimalist or are you a hoarder?

How much loot I carry depends on my current life and the play style rules I've attached to it, If I'm playing mostly rule free I'll horde ammo, backpack friendly weapons and food where possible but sometimes I'll playing with self imposed limitations such as my character on one private hive: No backpack, no vests, No scopes, 2 magazines (or fully loaded weapon plus one reload for weapons with internal magazines) 1maximum, no magazines larger than 30, no silencers, no large melee weapons, no V3S & no loose ammo while carrying magazine weapons. I only limit myself like that when playing as a lone wolf, I wouldn't want to hold a squad back however.

Do you pvp or just avoid it?

If I see a player and can gain an advantageous position then I'll seek out PvP, if PvP helps me survive due to loot shortages I'll seek it out, If I bump into a player in one of those "oh shit" moments I'll drop them for my own safety.

Do you just stay in one area or do you like to explore the map?

I tend to try and keep moving as much as possible.

What do you define as being successful in game?

There is no success in DayZ, success would be surviving and sooner or later every single character dies.
