I know an workaround for character reset in 0.52

Recommended Posts

So, it happened to me, character reset and I am sure that I was trying public hive, 1st/3rd person servers.

However, when you join a server and you see that your character is reset (no gear, different location) stop, don't move and exit the server. And very important, you have to exit the game too (if it did not crash already).

This might be a usefull hint for devs too.

I think most know the rule about getting off the server ASAP. But can you explain why you need to exit the game?

In the numerous times I've evaded reset by getting off the server, I haven't needed to get out of the game. And I've suffered only one (albeit serious) reset in 1500 hours of play.

Because just exiting the server did not fixed the problem.

Once I just existed the server, joined another, and I was the same bambi on the beach. Exited again, joined another server and the same. So I decided to close the DayZ client. After this, everything was ok, loaded old character. Obviously something in the DayZ client memory was wrong.

All this applies to 0.52 stable.

Or you just joined three janky servers on the trot. Which is perfectly do-able IME.

It might help, but I just can't really understand why, when the database/hive is obviously on the server side.

Who knows... Maybe some devs can help us here.

Anyway, when someone is in this situation and you see that nothing works, just try to close client, don't move, don't do anything else.

Its a networking issue not disconnecting the server from the database right away. So when you suggest exiting the game completely its just actually saying to the database you have disconnected.

The database still logs where and when you logged off for the day. If its disconnecting and a new spawn shows up chances are in my best opinion its because your where desyncing at the time it was trying to get your character information. It couldn't so it placed you as a newly fresh spawn. Basically you are called XXX thrown into a pool until your next save.

So yes hes correct in exiting the game completely to say to the Database and game your completely logged off.

I've tried your method but I think I ran around bitching about no gear, didn't bother me so I continued as oh well. When I tried to follow the disconnection / exit out of the game it didn't work so the key here.... is

Don't move around, exit out and redo the game login. It might help.

It didn't for me the once, but ill experiment with it when it happens again for some of us.

Thanks for bring this up, might save someone the time redoing gear runs.

Yes, I think if you move just one item in your inventory or make one step, you just overwrite your character. So this is what I recommended too, don't move, don't do nothing. Just press TAB to check your character and if this is not you, exit immediately (exit game).

Rule of thumb? Never, EVER join empty or nearly-empty servers and you'll be okay. I've had especially bad desync experiences with Fragnet's empty servers. They're hosting a ton of empty, desynced servers that have no reason to exist.
