Spawn with Radio instead of Flashlight

By design DayZ SA can't allow a global chat system.

While it goes against the spirit of DayZ,most people prefer the use of third party communication programs.

Additionally, almost none uses the ingame radios,which is a shame.

While we can't ban people from using TS....maybe we can motivate them to use the ingame communication system.

You want to hear my opinion...?

What if we replace the flashlight with a walkie talkie as starting gear for fresh spawns (and made their range global(("optional")))?

Then anyone could talk to everyone globally without the fear of realism or immersion breaking. :)

Well this should be optional, i dont want to hear the whole server^^ Specially when playing with friends or sitting in TS.

This is an option because most people play on "day only" servers and throw the flashlight away. 

 

I would like to see more random stuff while spawning. A small knife, enough to open cans but not enough to kill anything (at least faster than boxing them down). Some food or an empty water bottle. Some extra clothes, from worn to badly damaged. Ropes, wooden sticks, what ever you expect to find on the beach when you are actually there. 

This will make every start a bit diffent and ejoyable, not just like right now when you throw anything away to have space and go find more useful stuff instantly.

Of course it goes without saying that like the flashlight,batteries are included. :D

Ugh, no. 

 

Why not?

Atm walkie-talkies are treated as junk gear.Nobody really bothers with them

Having radios from the get-go is an awesome way to spark player interaction.

Additionally the lack of flashlights will add to the challenge of night time game-play.

No one plays with the flashlight either. When playing at night they just crank up the gamma setting and brightness :/. I'm not against the idea, but realistically very few people have VHF walkie talkies never mine know how to use them. Of course this is DayZ and our charcters are super human, being able to fly Helicopters, do blood transfusions and such lol.

Having used one myself,i don't really think learning to function a radio compares to flying helicopter or giving transfusions.

Trust me,you don't have to be superhuman to learn how to use one. :)

This is a good suggestion,it's like having the global chat back from the mod in SA.

To be honest i think it would suffer the same fate that the torch does, to be discarded as soon as the space in the new spawns limited pockets is needed for food or a pistol or practically anything else.

Radios are really common anyway, ease of finding one is not the issue here.

Once the system is fleshed out and we get radios of variable range, rarity and functionality I think we'll see them being used a little more.

Pretty interesting idea.. but i dare say if you spawn at night you should get the torch with out the walkie

The idea is pretty simple...when you know everyone,is equipped with a radio then anyone can hear or talk to everyone. :)

This alone is good enough reason to keep the radio in your inventory,when you know everyone else has one.

The flashlight though,it's discarded as the night's bright black and white colors make it a useless item to keep in your inventory.

I would take that bet!

I even dare to say,having the ability to communicate with everyone on the server will be a big game changer.

Trying this on experimental branch will receive plenty positive feedback.

Personally I don't think the flashlight would be so easily discarded if perhaps there were some "dark" locations in the day. For example, inside sealed buildings and underground complexes.

Nah, I disagree with the OP. I am hoping that the devs include an option to have new spawns start with one or more random, basic items (never a gun or backpack though).

 

In a game that has an emphasis on realism, it is funny that everyone in the world happens to be carrying a flashlight.  :)

Maybe it should be random like spawning with either a flashlight OR a radio.

Some say if you shave their heads, youll find a barcode tatoo resembling a famous assassins...

Others say that they are the spawn of a Big Boss from long ago, and are nothing more than Snakes...
