Ban concerns steam account, not DayZ player name?

I am not banned nor have I ever been. Just wondering. When you are banned, you can't log into the game from the steam surface at all? (Since a ingame player name ban list would be quite useless).

DayZ has VAC and BattlEye enabled.

Both types of bans are based on your account.
