Hardcore mode suggestions should be separated from the standard

Recommended Posts

Hi.

I thought that I'd point out that a lot of the suggestions made on these forums would probably better be made as suggested for hardcore mode.

As distinguished from basic game-play that would otherwise considered to be cheating in any other circumstance.

1. "First person mode only" is a legitimate hardcore setting as no realistic type game would have people seeing anything other than their field of vision. (Already exists)

2. Unless you know of any telepathic (psychics) people in real life, a hardcore mode where teamspeak is prohibited would also be extremely legitimate. After all, miscommunication is one of the key trademarks of friendly fire in real combat situations. I can't tell you how many Youtube videos I face palmed over people gloating at their, teamspeak, cheating sessions being successful.

3. Etc...

Any suggestions to add to a "hardcore flag" on servers would be appreciated.

Not really any way to prohibit TeamSpeak or any other VOIP program.  Not legally anyway.  Plus people are already getting paranoid at Battleeye scanning your computer for cheats/hack software, add in some sort of code that turns off TS or Skype and people will cry foul.

I agree. I would enjoy an ACRE-like system wit my friends ingame, but restricting communication out of the game would be a step too far.

TS has been discussed at length on these forums and others. It just won't happen cause it can't happen. There is absolutely no way to stop it. At the end of the day you have to draw a line in the sand and say this is where reality ends and the game begins. I like to play as HC as possible. I even play in first person when on 3pp servers and I am already at a huge disadvantage. If there was a way to do it then I would as long as everyone else is.

I have been toying with the idea of connecting my TS to in game voip so that when I talk on TS then people in game can hear me but the problem with that is it annoys my team if they are close by as there is a duplication of sound.

I didn't mean to prohibit teamspeak from being used on your PC, Mac, etc. What I said was to disallow you from joining the hardcore server if it's detected. Let's be honest here. Even Steam gathers program info on your computer if it's installed through the official Windows install method (ie - Help > Steam Information).

One of the only ways for administrators to determine who may be exploiting or scripting outside of video recording programs catching people is the in-game server log.

Example: Teamspeak pretty much allows hacker 1 to notify hacker 2 of your exact location, where player 2 tele-ports in behind you, and desyncs themself while you miss every shot in vain after being axed in the head.

God, I wish BattlEye did a better job at stopping hacking...

I believe you're overthinking this by claiming Teamspeak is a tool for cheaters.

Teamspeak for gameplay purposes is technically cheating (not hacking). But as the previous example, I have encountered situations where it was obvious hacking and even once the people admitted they were on teamspeak. Not afraid of being caught I guess. I've been kicked by admins for killing in military zones, so who knows... maybe the admins sometimes are aware or are participating in it themselves.

That aside, I understand a lot of people are using it purely to enhance their fun with friends.

Oh well.. I'll just drop the issue, and and accept another unavoidable fate of internet gaming. You guys are probably right.

It's less of enhancing fun, more of making games playable. Playing with my friends from Arkensas, Florida, Utah, California, Japan, how am I supposed to make that all work with text?

I don't follow. Isn't the use of in-game direct communication, including walkie talkies for long distance, the intended mode of voice communication. BTW, admins can hear everything spoken over that if they are present.

That would work if maybe you everyone had 148 Radios with 99 channels like in ACRE.

I'm saying that making DayZ work as a group game with no teamspeak when I have buddies that aren't playing in the same room of my home as me would be impossible.

Best approach to mitigate this is to mirror team speak or any voip program in game so while you can still cheat and speak across the map, people in your vicinity will hear you.

Best case solution however would be like in ACE mod with ACRE enabled.

You joiin the server and if you arent on their teamspeak with acre on it kicks you out. Perhaps the same thing can be done with server owners or maybe some nifty in game solution.

Some good info what they've been thinking for hardcore mode

No GUI, 1st person, no spawn or creating a character in the server for 24h, 48h or even for a whole week.
That last one is a thing that really made me smile because I've been also thinking about that.
