Im a terrible fighter

Recommended Posts

Not for a lack of trying but I have yet to kill anyone in this game. I focus more on survival and staying isolated.  However I seem to find the other players on the server even if there are only 3 people on and I am nearly always killed. Today I shot someone THREE times trying to survive.  I saw the impacts as I shot him with a mosin in the torso. He still came at me. It was a rather pathetic encounter.  I ended up running away to stay alive as I didnt think I could take him out. He did not have any body armor and looked pretty normal.  What did I do wrong?

Its a steep learning curve, best thing that i can advise is don't go looking for a fight, we already have too many KoSer's!

A tip that I use, especially if im using a mosin, is aim for the legs, it will break them in one hit if they are not completely healthy, hell i even do that with the shotgun - that way when I go over to someone to interact and they turn on me, try to shoot me or hit me with an axe or whatever - i can break their legs and then leave them there so they can crawl to make a splint and learn the error of their ways!

But gettign back to topic, it is a learning curve - and position / first sight is a huge importance in a firefight, practice on zeds if necessary to get your aim spot on - aim for the neck / head area - especially with any civ / hangun weapons - if you have to go for the kill - an SKS will knock someone out in those situations - but if you want to have some fun then shoot them in the legs if they turn on you...

But, most importantly - if you do need to get into a firefight - then be prepared for it! best not to go looking for one at all - but if you do find yourself in a fight then just think of old PAM, Position, Agression, Movement!

Shoot from cover - use Q and E to lean!

Be agressive but not stupid - push forwards when necessary! Make them worry and scared - they won't be as agressive then and give's you an advantage - but dont run out into the open hip firing - that will get you killed!

Movement - Remember that position is king! Try flanking - using cover - and if possible move without them seeing you! that will give you an edge since there'll be looking at where you were while you flank and shoot at them from the side!

Hope this helps in some way!

At the moment, due lag and the fact this game is a alpha and a lot of mechanics are not correctly implemented, I dare say the combat in this game is 90% luck based. There are so many bullshit factors that is hard to think otherwise imo.

So better luck next time man

We are on the same boat mate and maybe i'm worse. some days ago i was in Balota prison when i found out someone is coming up stairs, i tried to shot him with my mosin but he just moved too fast and i could't shot an boom, he killed me with a shot-gun. or i always loose a melee fight.

3 days ago i decided to improve my combat skills, and i found out some facts that keep me away from improving my combat skills:

First, the main reason is,i spent almost all my time in this game on low population servers, trying to get loot. and it keep me away from engaging people.

Second, i'm not careful enough. i'm not careful when i go in towns or airfields, i'm not careful enough where i'm eating some food or water. which is followed by fact #1 because i do not engage people enough to know where is danger or how they may react and i'm get used to empty cities.

Third, i'm not calm in fights. when i go into fights, i loose myself completely. i'm too anxious and stressed and it will start in first second of fights. i should practice #1 rule of the game which is do not get use to your gear, maybe that is why i get anxious.

Fourth, My knowledge of fighting mechanics is too low and i blame the game for it. there is no good training inside of the game, actually there is no training. maybe that is because Devs think all the people who buy the game are DayZ Mod or ARMA players but honestly there is not a good place to get knowledge about the game. i hope they add a single player or a training area where you can improve your shooting skills.

after i knew where my problems are, i tried to resolve it and i decided to do following things.

1. i started play only in High-Pop servers and private hives with no persistent on. i discovered a whole new DayZ, because i needed to be really careful in towns, now i can't go straight to military bases and pick up a AK or a Mosin, i started to use citizen guns because there is bandits every where and you need some sort of protection. now i know how sporter can save my life.

2. i started using public hive as a shooting practice area, i go to a city find a gun and Ammo and start practice my shooting skills with shooting zombies. i started to learn the guns this way.

3. i decided to engaged fights as much as possible, i will try to kill people who are a danger instead of running from it.

and after this 3 days, yesterday i killed a man who tried to kill a fresh spawn with one single bullet to his head. and i'm still learning  :)

I will give you advice from a very average Dayz player. I am not terribly accurate. I am not for a second going to use a mosin in cqb. Dayz is all about positioning, not rushing. Scout an area before you approach. Have an exit.

I have killed maybe 50ish people. I have been killed twenty or so. Not because I am good, but because I know when to leave! If you take fire and feel at a disadvantage, run for the woods! People are not good at hitting a moving target and they will not be able to catch up!

Just now FPS, and to a lesser extent ping, are the biggest drawbacks for DayZ PvP imo.
